Is PreSonus Eris E5 XT worth twice as much as smaller E4.5?? SOUND & RESPONSE COMPARISON

I opted for the 4.5's because of the price difference, and that it has a volume knob, aux in & phone inputs on the front. NO COMPLAINTS at all!

I have tried both. In my area for the price difference is around 40% of E4.5, so settled for E5 XT, they sound better and have better built quality. One major difference is the sweet is spot is very tight for E4.5, if you move away from the sweet spot then quality degrades significantly, for E5XT the wave guide helps it relax quite a bit.

The XTs are much better. I found them on several sites at a similar price. I don’t se a reason for the 4.5 and 5 non XT to even exist anymore.

compared to original tracks, both these monitors have too crispy higs, sounds too scooped. i can't stand why these kind of speakers are the way to mix-master...

You would never get an accurate mix on either pair.

Ok, let me break it down. Read everything.

I Started with Eris 3.5, got good results. Then moved to 4.5, got better results. So, I though from 4.5 to 5.25 is not a big jump. But I bought them nonetheless, men I was wrong, its a big jump in just sound, clarity, width, everything.

Grabbed a track I've made with 4.5, its sounded acceptable. But it sounded like shit on the 5XT, because I was able to hear every detail, so after some compression and eq and minor fixes it just sound soooo much better on all speakers ( my edifier, small ones, big ones, so on.). So, I've learned , if you want to make pro tracks, you need to invest in the tools.

5XT is good solid, studio quality tool.

Then, tried the 8XT and got more of everything..... but, the difference between the 4.5 and the 5XT was enormous.
If you want computer speakers get the 3.5.
if you just want to listen to music the right way, get the 4.5, not gonna go wrong there.

But, if you want to produce, arrange and mix, go with the 5XT and then if you want more go with the 8, but make sure you have the space for this. Putting 8 inch on the top of you desk would not cut it.

Great comparison! I pulled the trigger on the E5-XT’s. For me, it came down to getting a smaller set like E4.5’s + subwoofer around $400 or something a little larger with better bass integrated like the E5-XT ($300 for the set). My main issues are portability and space — subwoofers are space robbers whether in a small studio or in the car. So, I went with better, slightly larger speakers. If space/portability are no issues, I bet the E4.5’s + subwoofer would make a great combo.

Bought the 4.5's. Absolutely chuffed with them. Not as boxy/basey as the bigger high end speakers but still decent base. Especially in a small room. Overall for cheap price and sound quality, I think they're the best. 👍🏻👌🏻

Got me a pair of e4.5's with a subwoofer and it absolutely kicks ass for the price, everything sounds beatiful deep and clear on this setup couldn't be happier. Absolutely recommend it!

Boy you can really hear the difference between the two with the metal head music. As expected the XT's have a deeper bass response but at the expense of midrange, while the E4.5's are the exact opposite. I wouldn't say one is better than the other it's more a matter of personal preference. I kind of like the more forward mids of the 4.5's, I prefer that more in your face kind of sound. Pick your poison. Oh, I do prefer having an amp in both speakers like the XT's, that way each speaker can be adjusted individually, but is it worth an extra $150? That could buy a decent subwoofer.

I think the Eris 4.5 punches well above its weight sound and price wise. The E5xt costs twice the price of the 4.5’s

In this case the bass is maiy different. E5 is deeper. E4.5's vocal sound is finer, but I'll go for E5.

Which one are better for gaming, music and multimedia? E5 XT sounds better but aren't they more for studio use? Which will sound more pleasurable in everyday use?

When you sit in front of them it's different story.

I've yet to buy which is why I'm looking at reviews but people... am I the only one who finds the Eris 4.5's the better all-rounder here? To my ears, the 4.5's edged out the E5XT's several times in this review.

Really difficult to say. Yes bigger enclosure has more "body". More mids and lows I would say. Def E5XTis the more balanced between the 2. But the E4.5 is not far off either offering sharper and more directional highs. Highs on the e5xt is much more "diverse" giving it a much wider sound stage.

I wouldn't say which is better. It all depends on what are your applications for each monitors. E4.5 for home use, small to mid sized room with little to no acoustic treatment. Also for some casual audiophile music listening too. Save up enough for a pair of decent sub then you're good to go. The E4.5 are geared towards hobbyist, home studios, or just really someone who wants a true upgrade from mainstream 2.0 PC speakers. They're not intended for professional use, let's put that in perspective.

E5 is a little more jack of all trades versatile little speakers. Totally functional for both home and studio use. Can be used for whatever I have mentioned above and MORE. But of course more geared towards professional use as well. And they are the more forgiving speaker as well. No doubt you will enjoy movies and music from these speakers. Its like Presonus made a "fun" pair of speskers as well as a serious monitor. E5XT has 2 personalities. "Down to business serious monitor" or a "Fun and casual listener" where the E4.5 is more of a serious monitor in a small package.

TLDR version
E4.5 - if you have a lesser budget.
E5XT - Should be your first choice. Definitely go for it!

Thanks a lot for these video's. Although the E5 XT sounds more detailed/controlled and have more dept through my in-ear monitors, the E4.5 sound more natural and are more enjoying to listen to. The E5 XT sounds more bright and forward, also compared to the original E5. I would choose the E4.5 for multi media/home use (which I do) and the E5 XT if you need to use them professionally and are on a budget. Although still overly bright, which seems to be inherent to tweeters in this price range, compared to other competitors in this price range (Adam t5v etc), the PreSonus speakers sound the most balanced. Would really love to see you do a comparison of the HEDD type 5 monitors and some competitors in the same price range (around $1,000 per pair). Which stands did you use?

Hi, thanks for all your comparison videos! You really hepled me learning to listen. I'm searching for gaming monitors (mostly RPGs), Logitech Z623 seem good to me, I heard them live, but I got no space for the huge subwoofer. Then I fell in love with the Eris 4.5. Can you or anyone else please tell me if they could be the right choice for that purpose? Also maybe for connceting my Panasonic sound system to them. Thank you!

I am curious why your 4.5 sound that great. I hear 4.5 and 5.0 in friend house, the 5.0 sound same like yours. But the 4.5 sound not that tight and bass a bit less.

Presonus is really on to something with their monitor offerings. I’m having kind of buyers remorse with the HS8s I got with the E series and the kali offerings. Maybe presonus needs to do what KRK did to become the enthusiasts monitor to have to get street status.

The E4.5 are good no doubt, but the E5XT wins in the bass part and has wider mid and highs, while the 4.5 sound much tighter there.
twice the price is abit to much said, as 180€ vs 290€ isnt the double amount and for what im hearing, the premium in that range is worth it imho,

especially as we all know that you dont get double the sound for twice as much money, the more expensive the smaller the margin for improvement gets.


and just btw, i also like the design of the E5 XTs more, as they look the same and dont come with front controls, which makes them look better to my eyes...
