Ep. 004 – Instagram is dead, but people are still doing follow-unfollow.

Instagram is dying, as expected. This video is now a bit outdated, I should have been harder on the platform in retrospect. I won't probably make another one. I really do think the platform is over and not worth investing time or money in anymore!

In this episode, I mostly talk about Instagram and its downfall, but also about strategies that work for some people. At the recording date I wasn't completely done with Instagram yet, so it's not hyper negative. At the moment though (I am uploading this 2023/05), I am totally over Instagram. I have zero interest in wasting any more of my precious lifetime on that app, and I don't recommend it. Instagram is dying.

I would even go further than that. Not only do I think that Instagram has become a second facebook. I think that everyone who is advertising for this platform as a place of sustainable growth is nuts. I think that almost all "instagram coaches" are scammers and can not help the average micro influencer to level up to mili, centi or kilo, lol. (Got that joke, thank a teacher.)

For me, instagram is a waste of time. It will suck the life out of you, and the ROI is not worth it. Think about it: Would you pay 500 bucks a week for an ad that isn't reaching any(!) new customers? Instagram is a free ad platform for your business or influencer account. But it isn't at the same time. It's not for free. You have to invest like what, 10 hours a week for it to work? And most large influencers do way more. So what makes you think you can hack it? It's not sustainable to ask that kind of commitment from users just to give them organic reach. Organic reach should be organic, not curated. And Instagram right now, it is curating itself and organic reach to death. If they don't change their strategy soon, the rats will all leave the sinking ship for TikTok. Because if they make us make videos, we creators might as well do it on a platform which rewards us for it (in the form of views, comments and likes of the people who wanted to see our content and weren't unnaturally and weirdly kept from doing so, because Instagram wants you to pay for that).
