I still think the MG-3 should have been the one to replace the M60 rather than the M240. Two rates of fire... reliable, quick change barrels... What is not to like?

During my time at the Gebirgsjäger I deliberately carried the MG3 over 20 km just to earn the right to shoot it during an exercise. It's awesome.

Plenty of these in german service retained their scratched out swastika's up until the 2000's. Some still may have them. Now that's some quality gun.

Seeing how old guns were made makes me convinced that the gun pioneers were just snorting their weight in cocaine and hoped they made their crown jewel before succumbing to the overdose

Former German soldier here. I have two points to clarify:
1. You have to cock the gun to put the safety in, not to close the lit as you showed by reassembling the gun.
2. The fighting distance with only the bipod is 600m. The marks for up to 1200m are used when you put the gun on a mount.

It can also be mounted on a tripod-stand and can be equipped with a laser optical sight. In future also maybe with a camera, so snipers can not kill you while hiding in the trench and firing remote.

Everytime he slaps on one of the guns parts my heart skipped a beat. In the Bundeswehr you always get a hit on the back of your head when you do this.
