Forged in Fire: The Nagamaki Samurai Sword SLICES IT UP (Season 6)

Nagamaki enthusiasts here glad to see my favorite sword get some spot light finally!

Nagamaki is such a cool sword style it doesn't get enough representation in media.

seems little scripted though and more over judge testing weapons are not accurate as well, which let a bias in the contest

Is Nagamaki a sword? Is it a polearm?

The kami (blades) are not the correct shape and should not be attached to the tsuka (hilt) with glue — the nakago should have two ana (holes) with corresponding mekugi (pegs).

Hold on a minute, I am not a hater I love to watch Forged in Fire but with the kill test against the boar. Dug first cuts through the boar from belly to spine.
However when he does it a second time on the final cut where the boar was sliced in half previously, Dug attempted to slice through the boar from spine to belly.
And due to the fact that the second blade did not cut all the way through (in fact it hardly got through the hide at all) it is not a stretch to believe the result was affected by the difference in test.
Again not a hater I just think that they was a difference in tests and I also would like to see fair testing on a show I really enjoy to watch.

dont have a thick hide the thickness they think their slicing into is fat and that its naturally a refridgerated carcass

i think i cant remember a single duel when the 2nd blade wins if its a close desicion... and i still think its just beacuse they always start with blade A and than after they lost some freshness and strengh they continue with blade B. this goes through all 3 tests and every time the testers will feel like ... hmmm the first one was a little bit better to handle. and ofc the first blade will always cut better because there is more power in the strikes. poor contestands that are tested 2nd

Aesthetically speaking, Jake made a much prettier Nagamaki. I think the show should include a fourth or even fith challenge, like the weapon being hit by another one ad or the weapon hitting an armour or body protection, helmet of that time. By the way it would be fun having blacksmiths forging replica of ancient helmets.

And what are those for tests with those swords?

Why do so many people want to try out their sword before they temper it. When it's heat treated it's almost as brittle as glass.

I hope this is OK I just had to tell someone.
Watching your program I realised that if I wanted to make a leaf spring blank twicw as long and half as wide . Drill a 3/8's hole a metal with from the end. Then split it from end to hole. After that get it red hot and drive a wedge in the slot to initiate the opening. Once the opening is wider than the anvil , use the anvil as the wedge. Then heat and beat out the lumps.
Now I can hammer out a Rapier with half the work..
Probably I'm the last person to figure this out, but it feels so good.

I feel like Jake should have taken this. Dude had to make a second blade, so he had less time AND made a sword on par with Braxton. The only reason he lost was aesthetics.

I don't think I've ever seen two weapons on this show that were so evenly matched. What a tough decision for the judges!
