You have to be out of your mind to buy garmin when other companies like samsung with the "ultra" are half the price that can be traded in after years of use and updated....garmin does not support their products nearly as well as samsung. Dont get stuck with a $1000.00 paper weight like I did....garmin customer service is the worst.
ОтветитьUsing footpath, can the AWU last for a 10-12 hr hike with nav? Reason I ask, is if not, then I may buy an old fenix or Amazfit trex 3 to compliment my AWU. I’m leaning towards the Trex 3 because it’s so cheap, and just have the AWU on the other wrist
Ответитьthe Fenix 8 should be a $500 watch MAX!
Buggy Overpriced Mess with no Real advantages over the Previous 7...
I have a Fenix 6 that I hope to not replace for as long as possible. Recently, fiddling with my down jacket on and off, the Fenix 6 band undid itself and the watch dropped to the ground. The watch is fine, except the upper-left Light button sort of doesn't work now (it works but you have to press it long and hard) I find I use that button a lot waking up in the night or early morning, etc. Any info on where/how to get a Fenix 6 repaired? Thank you!
ОтветитьThe fall detection does sound like a great feature. Especially for a solo hiker. Is it only on the Apple Watch Ultra 2? Not on regular Apple watches? How does AWU2 battery life compare to Fenix? I love that I can take the Fenix 6 on a week-long backpacking trip and not have to recharge it at all (I mostly don't track on familiar segments) Thank you!!
ОтветитьI’m enjoying my first week of F8, but held off buying because of your earlier reviews. Oddly, the main selling point was the 1.4” screen in the 47mm model. The slimmer profile doesn’t hook up on ropes, rucksacks straps or jackets nearly as much as a 51mm Epix. I still think Garmin is ahead for outdoor use. I’m a little sad that Garmin seems to be led by Apple though, and you’re not going to get me talking to my watch!
ОтветитьI love my AWU, and I have the EPIX pro gen 2. I use the AWU the most. I like the design for the garmin better, and for adventure stuff like cycle touring I prefer my Garmin. But the AWU is such a good daily driver, and you don't realize how much you like cellular on a watch till you have it.
ОтветитьInstalled the 12.22 Beta on my Fenix 8. 👍👍
ОтветитьI hate how long it takes the Weather map to load
ОтветитьThe Garmins DO have Incident detection.
ОтветитьGreat video! The app is fantastic unfortunately, it can't read HRV, Body battery, and RHR from Garmin Epic Gen 2!!! What a bummer
ОтветитьThank you for the thoughtful update. I'm considering the Fenix 7 (standard edition) considering the attractive price. What are your thoughts on this model? I'm an Android user so any Apple watch is not an option.
ОтветитьI returned mines last night !!!!!
ОтветитьThanks Chris!
ОтветитьAWU is just perfect for me!
I am able to utilise the day to day functions while in the office and commuting - music, maps, pay etc…..
Then fantastic as a sports and fitness tracker, never ran out of battery for me. Max workout time was 14 hours once and still had 20% battery 🔋
Apps that I use include PeakWatch and WorkOutdoors, both brilliant 👍🏼👍🏼
Really love Footpath too! Great and super fast course planning! 👌
ОтветитьIm using AW series 8 for a 2 years… Now im on the crossway if i want to try fenix 8
im starting with triathlon trainings and the battery is starting to be huge downside for me
i wonder if ultra would be enough for me i guess that yes but there is this part of me that wants to try smthing completely different byt is afraid that i will be missing all these smart things that AW has
Hi Garmin does have incident detection. But it's in activities. So if you are using the watch in a function like walking running hiking it detects incidents and sends a message via your phone. It sends the location and a live link to your location to whoever you set it to go to.
ОтветитьNov 24
I queried Garmin about the "dimness in low light" issue, and their response was that their engineers addressed this in the 11.89 update and as far as they are concerned it is resolved. Can't say that I see any difference, but that is their position.
Love to see a COROS in the mix.
ОтветитьWhich strap is that? Thanks!
ОтветитьThe idea of spending that much money for a watch that isn't worth it... i wonder if the Narq series are equally a rip off. Maps and navigation being a big selling point. Sad.
ОтветитьI thought Garmin does have accident detection via IN Reach, sure you have to have your phone around to send the alert but it’s not that different from non cellular Apple Watch. Once mix in cell Apple Watch is no competition I so pose. Also in reach requires subscription. In other words they both require some sort of payment to allow for it to fully work. Ah I did miss the fact the Apple Watch without cellular connected to an iPhone is what makes it superior. At this point guys we just living in fear 😅 they both good. I’d say whichever is cheaper or more practical for you on a daily. None of this in case your stuck out somewhere situation.
ОтветитьOne advantage I have found with my Epix Pro is that I can wear it outside my jacket. With colder weather now, it's handy to not have to lift my sleeve to see the watch. When I tried that with Apple, I have to unlock it when I want to see the screen.
ОтветитьI think you might need to review what you said about Garmin not having incident detection and assistance alerts as both me and my husband have it on both the venu 2 and a fenix 6 pro
ОтветитьPeople that have committed to the apple watch tend to dismiss the battery life because they just put in the charger when they shower or sleep, etc. I am not that disciplined. I absolutely love seeing my Fenix 8 down to 20% after almost 2 weeks and there are days left, or I can do a couple hour activity without being concerned. Also, as I get more used to the interface, the Fenix 8 really is a great watch. I don't have full-time experience with the Ultra so I can't judge, but your last reviews feel like they were done by someone looking for a path to switch away from Garmin. That being said, I appreciate your reviews.
ОтветитьI wear a Garmin 965 and an Apple Ultra 1 for the best of both worlds. God gave me two wrists for a reason! Athlytic is excellent for a quick view. Elite HRV is also excellent on Apple.
ОтветитьWent from a phenix 7 to apple ultra ans now have a samsung ultra. The apple and samsung have so many more features.
Prefer samsung due to the look over apple, hated the apple watch styling.
Phenix 8 STARTS at $2100 here in Australia, and that includes black friday sale. whereas I got my galaxy ultra for $900 down from $1300.
The Fenix 8 did detect my hand impact and was going to try to call emergrency and it let me stop it by holding down any button. I assume through the paired phone. So it has some emergency stuff.
ОтветитьI didn’t think about it until you pointed it out. I have the Fenix 7x solar sapphire and ultra watch 2. Had a difficult time deciding. But when you mentioned the fall and car crash detection that kind of helped me decide to go with the ultra. Even though I really like the garmin. I just hate having to pay for subscription. Been trying to cut back. But guess you have to pay to play. Nice by the way Mr. @Hikingguy
ОтветитьI have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 in black. Had an Epix Gen 2 Pro and sold it to come back to Apple. Also have a 20% Garmin coupon that I’ve had an itch to use but you brought me back down to earth. AWU2 is perfectly fine for the other 23 hours in the day. Thanks for helping me save money!
(Although I’ll hang onto that coupon just in case, haha)
Thank you for the helpful video. In your experience, how does the GPS accuracy of the AWU2 stack up against the Garmin fenix/epix suite? Say for example, when hiking next to tall canyon walls or through a narrow slot canyon?
ОтветитьAll these features don't mean anything when your watch is off! When I go for a long hike on the trail or travel with a fully loaded schedule and forget to charge the watch, it becomes a big problem.
ОтветитьHey is someone know what band does he wears with his Fenix ?
ОтветитьWish Apple would just listen to your feedback.
ОтветитьI've actually been an Apple user for a long time, but I use Garmin for smartwatches. One of the main reasons is the still poor battery life and this hasn't changed since the first model, which is a shame. I suspect Apple has no interest in changing anything here.
ОтветитьI appreciate all highend features of the Apple Watches but the battery life is pure disaster. As a outdoor guy I will prefer Garmin until anything else will compete with them in battery life.
PS: Enduro 3 is my way ... and I hope for more and bigger competition on the field of battery life. :)
Great video I'm considering the Epix pro Gen2, is this still going to get same updates as the Fenix8? Is it worth it still or I will be getting behind in tech? I just need it to monitor my activities, sleep, HRV and Heart rate. Thanks, great video!
ОтветитьGreat comparison. I have a Fenix 8 and the bugs have been annoying. I am considering switching to just an AW Series 10. The health and emergency features are more critical than most “nifty” features on the Garmin watches, anyway. Thanks for pointing out the Athlytic app, as well.
ОтветитьI bought the Garmin Fenix 8 it kept restarted when scrolling through menus. Then it would completely brick itself in cold water which I do a lot of cold swimming and ice baths.
So for €1000 plus..
I returned it for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 black.
I like this watch but I prefer the simplicity of Garmin over the multiple apps of Apple..
I quite like Athlytic and lots of great third party apps .
However I’m still a fan of a round watch face and a simple one app for all your stats.
Considering getting the Epix 2 pro which is on offer for a steal at the moment
What band do you recommend for someone who works outdoors and sweats a lot in the Australian heat? Thankyou
ОтветитьI have an AWU and I want something with MUCH MORE battery life. Like to the point I’m considering leaving smartwatches all together. Would you say Garmin is the way to go?
ОтветитьWhy is every reviewer wear the smart watches so tight? I don't have one yet, only experiences from traditional watches.
ОтветитьApple is not something I would consider, I'm in too deep into Samsung and Garmin ecosystem.
It does sound appealing, though.
I've been into garmin and never had an issue with hiking, cycling, and some outdoor sports on some occasions to suit my long outdoor activities.
It feels so good to be able to rely on the off grid maps and long battery life of a Garmin device.
I tried out the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and I hated having to download additional apps to get its full potential.
At this point I need something that is all preloaded ready to go plus battery life.
I have the fenix 7X Sapphire and decided to get the 8 51mm Solar because I have nothing but positive convenience with Garmin.
I used Watch 6 & Ultra plus Epix Gen 2. The Fenix 8 is everything I wanted in all those watches and more. I hike, bike and run. Especially for running, Garmin training features are magnificent. The Fenix 8 is a lot more comfortable to wear than Ultra which was too bulky for me and horrible to run and sleep with. The new UI is a much more pleasant experience and the thinner bezels provide more screen on the 47mm. All in all it seems a finished product. luckily my wife approved of the purchase as she inherited the Epix for hiking.
ОтветитьTotally agree - how on earth does Garmin Fenix not have better integration with InReach!
ОтветитьI still don't understand why you can't erase the phone history with the now 12.35 update
ОтветитьFenix 8 : Still the super annoying auto deeming in the night remains unfixed!!! Watch brightness is super low in the night almost unusable for me
ОтветитьVery honest review again. 👍👌 Well done. ThX. 💪👏 I always listen your experiences/opinions with interest. 🤔
