Bait Finesse System Fishing is a highly addictive and incredibly rewarding way of targeting a wide range of species. The BFS "movement" started in Japan, and has now spread all over the world. With avid fans in the USA, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, China, Italy and many more (Alan Ang's "Bait Finesse Style" FB group has members from at least 99 countries!).

With such a range of countries represented, naturally there is also a huge range of target species including trout, char, largemouth bass, smallies, perch, snakehead, sebarau (Hampala barb), pike, peacock bass, crappies, bluegill, chub and more all commanding their own dedicated audiences.

The appeal of modifying, maintaining and super-tuning your own reels can be a big part of it for many - with special ultralight spools, high performance bearings (as well as blingy handles and dials!) being common features.

Casting skills, light fluorocarbon or PE braided line and little finesse lures all combine to give a really sensitive and skillful experience. Plus, the gear can be highly portable and is ideal for fishing in tight, technical conditions. Whether you enjoy soft plastic worms and creature baits, finesse frogs or hard baits (such as tiny jerk baits or crank baits) - there is someone catching a ton of fish on BFS gear throwing your favourite stuff in weights below 5g (and even down under 1g or around 1/32oz) using ultralight baitcasting reels with special spools.

In addition to sought-after JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) brands offering super-special BFS gear (with the likes of Shimano, Tenryu, Daiwa, Smith and Varivas all represented) - there are an increasing number of highly affordable "first steps" rods, reels, lures and lines available - particularly from Chinese manufacturers. This has definitely lowered the barrier to entry - and (perhaps strangely) the higher priced brands seem to also be benefiting from the influx of people who want to "trade up" to the next level of gear when they fall in love with the Bait Finesse System experience.
