Bro reds starter is bulbasaur. It’s his starter in let’s go which is a mainline game. The manga and ex aren’t canon

In universes where Red has to pick between the 3 original starters (Such as Red and Blue, Fire Red and Leaf Green, the Manga, pokemon Masters, pokemon generations) red normally picks Charmander, sometimes Bulbasaur, but his CANON starter is Pikachu as pokemon Yellow is the Canon gen 1 storyline and in every single canon red appearance, his starter and ace is Pikachu. People who say pokemon yellow is just “based off the anime” dont understand that Ash is just the anime’s Red. Red and Blue were created for gameplay purposes such as customization and trading with no story line, while Yellow actually introduced story and a linear path to take. I do think gym leaders and blue keep their red and blue teams though, as Blue’s final eevee teams dont feel like him, and he wouldve probably immediately switched eevee out for his desire to create the ultimate champion team, Hence Red having his canon Yellow team in the sequels, yet Blue still having his classic Red and Blue team (Gyarados instead of his “blastoise” is canon).

Im gonna Argue that Pikachu is In Fact Red's Starter for Various Reasons in the Games, for some Key Reasons


1.) Red's Adventure must've taken Place in Yellow Because his Canon Team Consists of all 3 Kanto Starters, The Eevee from Celadon (which is now an espeon), One of The Snorlax, Presumably from East of Celadon, and His Starter, Pikachu.




2.) Piggybacking off of #1, Red Has all 3 Starters, Which Is (Legally) Impossible, and he could've traded with Blue for Another Starter But How'd he get The 3rd one, If you try and Take Another Starter from Oak at Any time, he'll tell you to not be greedy, and Locks you from the pokeball, but in Yellow? You can get all 3 easily.


(For the Newbies:

You Get Bulbasaur in Cerulean City In the House Next to the PokeCenter, but Pikachu must like you enough, which you can do after spamming Healing Items on it even after its at full HP


You Get Charmander North Of Cerulean After Nugget Bridge, theres a Trainer if you go Northwest after the Bridge and a Trainer will give you it.


For Squirtle, You Must Talk to The Officer Standing In Vermillion, Shes not hard to miss. Im pretty sure you have to beat Surge beforehand though.)

3.) Pikachu is Asscheeks, right? And Red Has one, Although Having Multiple Times to Evolve it, but why wouldn't he, because In Pokemon Yellow You can't evolve your Starter




Also Red's Manga starter is actually Poliwag, he Gets Bulbasaur as a Gift from oak and his Pikachu after Catching it In Pewter.



(And if were going off of The OG 3, Red's Mostly Seen with a Bulbasaur in Official Art Back Then and He's really only seen with a Charizard as Canon In EX and Smash Bros. Which aren't Canon at all.)

I disagree with red starter being charizard. Aside from pokemon adventure manga, Red in pokemon generation got a bulbasaur too. Then in pokemon lets go eevee/pikachu (the only main series game that show us all 3 trainers with full team with 1 starter each) Red has a venusaur, blue has a charizard and Leaf has a blastoise.

I think that Hilbert fits a lot with oshawott due to his personality, not to goofy, not to serious. Bianca, however, fits tepig perfectly. Tepig is a really goofy pokemon, and it's a bit "stupid", as well as Bianca. Cheren fits perfectly for snivy, as they're both serious, calculative and intelligent. At least, that's my opinion.

Being honest I disagree with giving red charmander because origins isn’t canon besides it’s small verse of one series

It’s always been a big argument for which Kanto Starter is canon to Red’s character. Charmander makes sense thematically, it matched Red’s name with its color and Type, it’s the physically offensive Starter, and is the most popular, and it’s canon in Origins and Masters. However I’m in the Bulbasaur camp, as Red has Bulbasaur in the Adventures manga, Generations, and Let’s Go. It’s also #1 in the National Dex, and is featured as his starter in the original concept art for Gen. 1, and is just more interesting and cooler to me. And for his anime counterpart, Bulbasaur was the first Starter that Ash caught and was probably used the most in battle compared to Charizard and Squirtle.

No its not, Game Freak had Red put his hand on Bulbasaur in the original Pokemon Red and Green artwork and Green/Blue male chose Charmander in the artwork. In Lets Go Red has a Venasaur and Blue has a Charizard just like the original RGB strategy guide artwork as well, all coming from Game Freak themselves. Red's true starter pokemon is Bulbasaur 100% confirmed by Game Freak multiple times in iterations.

Personally I think Kalem should have greninja, mainly because greninja and kalem just fit better in my eyes

Red canon choices is a Bulbassaur, there's a lot of Ken Sugimori's artwork from the 90s wich depict Red with a Bulbassaur and his rival, Green, with a Charmander or a Charizard

And also it's a nice symbolism, Red's starter pokémon is one with a green color pattern, and Green starter pokémon is one with a red color pattern

I like to put Lucas with Chimchar because I definitely agree that Piplup goes to Dawn and Turtwig and Barry play off each other well with one being really fast and the other taking a slow pace.

For red I would say Bulbasaur cause the Let's go battle being his most recent battle

For representing Growth as both trainer and character, Charmander is the right pick for RED not Bulbasaur lol. Prof Oak stated that Charmander is the most hardest starter to raise and you need to be patient to carefully guide it, this is proven to be facts when you face Brock and Misty gym, basically you need to work hard as a trainer with your Charmander to overcame this challenge together. For Bulbasaur you literally can sweep the whole 2 gym without overlevelling or even the right moveset lol , as long as you have grass move, it's basically gg game for Bulbasaur, where's the growth in that lol. It would completely destroy the message that the MC start as Zero or basically nothing as opposite as it's rival and would turn the whole concept upside down with the MC become Gary sue who easily overcame manh challenge and always one step ahead of other people including the MC very own rival.

For Charmander as you overcame the 2 gym, your charmander become stronger and stronger to the point where it can literally one shot the whole elite four as a charizard and even your rival's Blastoise with the right moveset like Solarbeam and Sunny days to minimizing the damage from Blastoise hydro pump and insta charge solar beam. Bulbasaur start as easy but eventually become more difficult and difficult to the point where it's final evolution can't even stand a chance against the first elite four lol, Lorelai is gg, even if you somehow get to the champion with help from your team, Your rival charizard would one shot your Slow Venusaur with a single flamethrower lol.
