I owned one this twin think QT W 222.Absolutly not practical no good engeniring, cheap plastic body,tape selector just for playback and no any Dolby NR.The sharp precedestor QT 77 or QT 88

The biggest issue I have with the back to back one is rewind is to the right of fast forward.

JVC is the BEST . Great 2.1 systems. I think they were the first to use it, with '85 Until '95 I listened to this system

Just found a WQT370 for 5$ cnd. Why can't you FF or REW tape 1?

Umm the HK-9000 was a freakin beast.. along with the WF-939/940.. the others.. yea basically crap..

Can't believe they didn't have a way to fast forward or rewind on both tapes independently. Mechanically it wouldn't be that tough to get that to work, but I guess they didn't want to go that route in developing that complex of a mechanism.

I had one of these for my birthday in '89. I was given a budget and I wanted a twin deck from a decent brand having bought a Pine personal stereo the same year 😮

In its defence, it did have a decent bass on it but I too discovered the mix tape issue not long after I got it. For just playing tapes I used the A deck as my dad had a theory that was the better quality tape head as it could only play, not record.

I got one of those Sharp double stack cassette, I think you miss one special feature, it can skip though songs and detect the gap in song and switch back to play.

Would think the rewind, FF only thing would be on Tape 1, not Tape 2.

I had a WQ-T282E for either my birthday or Christmas in 1987 when I was 13. I was very into my music, and it got absolutely hammered. By about '92 I'd worn out the slipping clutches in both directions on one deck, with the otjher surviving a couple more years. But it lived on as an amp only when I bought a discman off a friend, until I could afford my 1st hi-fi separates system in '97. Being into albums, it copied a lot of them, and not being into mix tapes or bothered about continuously playing more then 2 cassette's I don't think I ever considered the lack of ability to change one tape while the other was playing a disadvantage (until you mentioned it here - in hindsight, maybe it's why I mostly listen to albums). Pretty certain the WQ-T282E could FFWD or RWD either deck.
I remember mine very fondly as a great bit of kit, even though I wore the clutches out (I knew it was duet to the excessive amount of use it'd had). My entire music taste was developed on music listened to on mine.

I’m 51, in the US and all of my friends and I were ABSOLUTELY trading mix tapes all the time! My wife is 45 and has the same thing. They are how I discovered most of what I still listen to.

I had one of these. I know it clearly marked with a switch that what mode it is in but it was very easy to mess this up and end up recording the host cassette. However , the mechanism was really solid. The belt wouldn't fail. I used it mainly for FM. Worked great for me otherwise.

The faff with the tapes when making the mix tape reminds me of when I used to try and optimise my storage before I had a hard disk, only having dual 880kb floppy drives. With each disk costing about £1.50 each, it would be a genuine struggle sitting in the OS copying saved data in and out of RAM:(a virtual disk in RAM that would enlarge and shrink itself depending on how full it was, was a requirement if you only had 1 drive, but still useful even with dual drives) then trying to assign files to each disk to get as close to 880kb as possible so as to get as much use out of each disk as possible.

Wow! My cousin had that one and in 90's Poland it really impressed hehe. I remember somewhere around 1998 I made him a power adapter circuit (it wasn't pretty, I was 14) to power PC CD-ROM player and he had it underneath that Boombox with audio passing through it basically giving him Aufio CD capability hehe.

What rubbish. I never made a mix tape from another tape. Normally it was always CD to Tape to play in the car/personal tape player.

I spent my entire childhood with a similar Sharp WQ-T252. And recently I was given a Sharp WQ-T281Z. All the Sharps that I had to deal with were from this series.

Have you ever heard of the Casio cd-700ds? It's a dual CD boom box that allows you to setup playlists that alternate between 2 CD's

I repaired these for a sharp service agent many years ago. It was a real pain if a tape got stuck. Another claimed benefit was that as both tapes used the same capstan, the dubbed copy should be identical.
