Years ago I had a product that was supposed to stop fogging of mirrors. I always thought that it was adding a thin hydrophobic coat on top of the glass. That would prevent water droplets from sticking to the glass. Now, I wonder whether the product was really cleaning the glass and preventing nucleation. How can we distinguish between these two possibilities?

Okay so my husband installed a bathroom fan in our tiny bathroom in our 1936 built house. When he first installed it, it worked great. Not even any fog on the small mirror (which is about 2ft x 1ft). The install was done during the summer and now it is almost winter and the fan isn’t working the same as we now get condensation on the mirror and small window. Now this bath is upstairs, the room is very small with maybe about two steps from the shower to the toilet, basically an arms length from the shower if you stretch a little (and I’m only 4’11) . So my husband cut about two feet of the top of the door and a foot off the bottom of the door and now it kind of looks like a high school bathroom stall. It was either that or opening the door when showering or removing the door completely. Problem is we are a family of 5 and privacy is a concern. We are transplants to Iowa which apparently is pretty humid, especially in the summer months. My question is…..Is it really necessary to have that much of our door missing? Would there be a better solution? And what should our expectations be? The idea isn’t to reduce fog in the mirror specifically but rather to eliminate the possibility of damaging the walls with condensation. Also even a hot shower with all that door gone makes the shower somewhat cold as we only keep the heat to 65% in the winter. Help….we are all feeling cold and exposed here. Thanks in advance for any response!
