I was on an aircraft carrier called Albion I think? When I was a child,(early 60’s)the navy used to allow visitors to come out by little boats and get free tours when they were at anchor on the Clyde near Greenock. I was on American ships too,that used to be very popular then,was great,and I ended up being an apprentice welder in one of the local shipyards and had an international career plying my trade in many countries.

I didn't see nothing that happened that was bad. All I saw was some badly colorized film

What an absolutely hideous job of "colorizing" the film!! It's an awful job! Willing to bet the original film is MUCH more detailed even if it was in black and white. What a shame.

I’ve watched this repeatedly and can’t see any tragedy at all. Boats sailing in a river. A ship being launched from far away. People watching something from a great distance. Men in rowboats crowding around looking irritated and confused. Sorry, if this were run twice, the second time with critical events visually emphasized, it would be extremely helpful.

Unforgivably stupid. It was quite possible to calculate the backwash wave a ship of that size, moving at the slide velocity it would attain going down the slips, would produce and the minimum safe distance to build reviewing stands at. Certainly enough to conclude that nobody should have been right at water's edge. Simple common sense should have dictated that.

Fascinating historical footage... except for the halfassed attempt at colorization. Save your time and effort and just post the original b&w; your viewers' optic nerves will thank you.

Whom ever came up with the idea of putting the bleachers in a area that would have a huge wave wash over it should have been put in jail!!!

Every single person in this footage is dead.

It looks more like the side f the ship facing us the viewer ran and smashed and overturned much rectangular dock and people .. the area was not cleared before it launched or broke away and slid prematurely down the ramp .The camera was running suggests it could be the launching without checking . That many people and many in rowboats and fanfare could have caused confusion .
