If anyone is still having problems try this, i used pop os which is a distro of ubuntu but unfortunately this method did not work for me so if you are in a similar situation I recommend going into settings then display and change the graphics controller to VBoxSVGA (make sure 3d acceleration is disabled) an then go into the resolution setting in pop os and change it to your devices native resolution and it should run in fullscreen.
