From what I'm hearing the JBL are the only ones without hiss, hum, mid range reverberation. They sound crisp with the best range IMO. Ofcourse we have to take the a LOT of variables into equation but JBL seem to stand out in this test. Or maybe JBL doesn't express the poor recording qualities in this sound example.

I'm planning to replace my old genius surround system. Would LP6s have enough low end to use them without a sub? My living room is quite narrow, but long (3m x 6.5m) And I dont plan to mix on those, just for casual lsitening.

Best sounding one was the JBL. But only by hair over the Yamaha. The worst sounding ones were the T5V and the Pioneers ... by far. For the money, the best sounding ones were the Presonus'. The KRK sounded virtually indistinguishable from the Presonus. (The presonus sounds a little less loud, and has a smidge more bass).

Those Kali speakers in this review sounded very tinty, almost as if the midrange was coming from a speakerphone. Everyone's tastes are different and it's hard to tell based on this camera's audio pickup. As a sound designer, I can tell you those Kalis don't sound clean. It would be nice to hear the difference when properly compared to the source and played from a good stereo pickup. We use some of the JBL 308MKII speakers in the smaller remote environments as they reproduced the cleanest image in our experience.

Listening to all of these on my less expensive $150/pair monitors is probably not the best way to judge, but several of these speakers sound like they're coming through a tunnel, and a few sound quite transparent. The Adam, Yamaha, KRK and JBL are the only ones that approach "natural". I can hear why some say the Yamahas have a bit of a boxy midrange. I have to say the LP6 speakers do not live up to the hype at all. This has helped me narrow my field. I have a pair of the JBLs I use as output from my Roland piano, and they are fantastic for that, especially for providing a genuine sounding low end. But they are slightly colored for vocals, and matters a lot for music production. Now to re-listen through my audient interface and pricey headphones....

Jees someone should tell JBL and many of the worlds top studios to get out of the high end studio monitor game, apparently they sound too 'artificial' and 'lifestyle' ish.. rofl, what the * are you even talking about bro. youre throwing a lot of terminology around that you dont understand. A ported speaker design is not a 'bass reflex port'. youre basing your assessment of all of these various speakers based off of what they look like.. so, nothing, in essence. useless review.

I think this review did a bit of a disservice to JBL monitors. He at least admitted his bias against the JBL brand, but they are by far one of the best speakers in this group and offer a really clear and flat sound without being ultra flat and hard to listen to like the HS5s

krk's and the jbl sound the best and clearest on this specific sound test you did. they just had a more clearer and better sound. if you are a dj and like to mix more heavily bass tracks i would deffintly go for the krk's or the jbl's. in terms of features i think you are wrong the krk's offer great dsp tuning options and also being able to set it up with an app and an lcd screen just takes them to a higher level. overall i deffintly recommend them.

This review is very opinionated, and barely based on objective measurements. The monitors were tested on only one song, and were also put on a desk, instead of monitor stands. The separation between the monitors for the sound comparison was also too little. There was also no mention about frequency response, or even frequency range of the speakers. Lastly, judging studio monitors based on the colour of their cones is by far the last thing i want to hear from a reviewer.

And duunking on JBL just because of seeing them as a tacky bluetooth company is doing them injustice. I have seen JBL monitors and speakers used professionally in churches, live gigs, and line arrays. JBL knows what they are doing with monitors.

Why would you "audition" the speakers with a song that has distortion added in on purpose?

Is it the speaker or the song? Who knows? Kinda ridiculous.

Ответить

Aa someone whos been into audio for listening for pleasure, jbl has never been high on my list. I like brands like magnepan, wilson, and b&w. However, in the professional environment, JBL is pretty much the defacto standard. Theyre flat, cheap (for what you get, i should say good value), and loud without distortion. Thats why most movie theaters use them. Not only that, but theyre reliable. Much more so than a lot of the esoteric brands.

If i had to choose studio monitors on name brand alone, id be walking out of the store with JBL. They may no blow me away, but I know im not going to be disappointed. None of the other branda here have earned that reputation.

Um, you do realize JBL, Electro Voice were the giants in the pro live sound world for decades, right? On, and front port vs rear port makes zero difference unless you have the back of the speaker tight against the wall.

Very difficult for me between Yamaha HS5 and Adam Audio T5V, damn they both have it's glory points.. But honestly, if you're going for anything under HS7/HS8 you're probably making a mistake with yamaha compared to the rest of the lineup, unless yo really need this kind of clarity in highs and accuracy overall.. I don't know... I think HS5 is more flat and less in low end, while I feel like T5V is a little bit rolled off on the high maybe even high mids. HS5 sounds more crisp and detailed, but I mean... If you're making HipHop or some heavy bass EDM: I think the T5V would be a little bit better even though the highs are maybe a little less clear (you probably have a headphone, some other tool to listen to the music: so no doubt you'll find a sweetspot in EQ).

But to be honest, I am only listening to this on an AT ATH-M40x, so it might be a little bit difficult to judge. Also I really need new pads they start to lose it's depth and clarity, so I might be really off in accuracy.
