Tbh in Dina's case that comparison is very biased. The screenshot is of a dimly lit scene that accentuates facial creases and shadows, meanwhile the photograph is over-exposed, thus smoothing everything out. I mean, you can barely even see her nose. And I don't know what kind of crazy standards everyone has but I think claiming that the in-game model is ugly is kind of wild.

The annoying thing is that a woman showing feminine traits confers power. It's not physical strength, like an attractive man, but it's power and it translates in a story to physical capacity so long as you don't get ridiculous about it and have the character, without supernatural/scientific explanation, compete in raw strength against a larger opponent (human or not).

I always figured it was the social constructionism side of things. They believe that attractive people are attractive because that is what is portrayed in media as attractive, as opposed to attractive people being potrayed in media because they are attractive. Aloy was hideous even in the first game. She doesn't look "strong" or "intimidating", she looks like she's about to raid the fridge and eat all my Ben & Jerries.

Aloys face changes alot. Depending on the temperature or scene in the game. Sometimes she looks the same as zero dawn. Aloy is not ugly in zero dawn. All people calling her ugly are talking about forbidden west.

Honestly, I played ZD for gameplay and overall story of human annihilation by their own creations. Yes it has woke characters but its not the focal point of the game

It's not on the animators or facial mocap. It's on the people sculpting the character traits. You can retarget bones to any creature you want. The artists and director decided on incest monsters.

the one in JFO was ok because she was not good looking but she was the old mentor character so you can put the looks as a result of her age. the young woman on the crew looked good... but i guess they didn't have to go the ugly route with her because she wasn't human
