NOTION v GOOGLE DRIVE | In depth comparison

Recently experimenting with the different productivity and writing apps, I have used google docs since like high school through grad school for notes and research (and MS office where needed).

Lately been looking into Notion (since feeling creative and wanting to copywrite for fun for my musings and readings being tired of our current media empire overlords), which seems less organized with all the files in one database rather than organized folders (you can search google docs like a database to so I don't see how that makes it compelling).

For me, what makes Notion compelling is most likely one thing you mentioned I didn't know for free users (unlimited documents and uploads up to 5MB), and the more wide range of community templates vs standard google templates like MS Word style.

Recently filled up my GDrive free space (after idk a decade???), so got the mid-tier for $25 annual, I feel this is worth it to sync docs and any other file type between my devices (Windows desktop, MBP, iPad Pro, Android phone). Keeps it seamless for the most part.

I get wanting a separate home external drive for docs but thats not compelling for me since it doesn't sync to all device and still needs a cloud storage if you wanna do that. I feel that mechanical drives are more prone to failure than Network NAS with many backups.

But anyway, still exploring the broad landscape and looking to see what works best with a combination of everything including the to-do lists versus winging it with time naturally which has worked for the most part except when time got weird with the pandemic and modern times. Got any tips for to-do apps or templates in Notion?

Question: couldn't you have just made folders and called them "home" or whatever it is you are tagging ? and then the subfolders become the rest ?
For a simple organization, isn't google drive more.... straightforward and less complicated ?
for example say you have health as a main folder, then inside of it, you have exercise and nutrition etc... could that not be enough ?

Can someone tell me the major use cases for Notion? Maybe there are some speed benefits? With Drive being so integrated with all other Gsuite tools many are already using, I'm looking for a compelling case. I'm at a company using all google stuff. I noticed that some of the spreadsheets we have a very slow to open when they get complex and reference other spreadsheets with links. I was considering using Notion for the speed and cleaner look (at least cleaner in the fact that I could separate some types of documents from Drive). Not sure if that's worth it bc it adds another piece of software. Also considering using it for company contact director and processes. Our processed are embedded into our task management software, but I don't want them only hosted there and want to be able to edit them without pushing changes to task management software. Finally, I could use Notion as a "system of systems" (Michael Gerber) because you need a system to tell you when and how to implement your other systems. Thoughts?

Great video, Notion needs a few more things for me to move my google docs, 1) print (not export to pdf, then print). 2. Smart Quotes, 3. File import (like images from folder, not one at a time). 4. Sub/superscript , 5. footnotes for starters. Again thank you.

You can only upload file size of upto 2gb on notion(saw on notion official Twitter handle) there is no such limit in gdrive

I think people prefer Google because it’s easy to use and it integrates with all the other google apps and functions.

It’s a little outdated and Notion really should be more popular
