U can also install windows while the host os in on by mounting the windows iso file then do the setup like normal that may or may not work.but it saves the command line or eliminates the risk of accidentally ruining a partition.

I like this video! As I understand it, the VHDX images could also be on a hard drive without a Windows operating system - in other words, simply on an empty hard drive. Or am I making a mistake in my thinking?

If you delete the virtual drive you may get a BSOD that says you need to repair you PC but press F9 and select another OS

I was immediately thinking that now I could install XP and Win7.
But you explained why not - as it is not possible to mix UEFI and MBR.
Unless you do some fancy stuff in your BIOS setup when booting up.
But it should work with Linux multiboot as well ?

I got problem - windows won't start installing - giving me message We couldn't create a new partition or locate existing one - can't pass this - I was even trying to create new partition and format but it stuck on this

Thank you for this great tutoria! This is what I need, but, unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I followed every step correctly and when I boot to install windows, in the command prompt when I type c:, then cd vhdx - it just says "system cannot find the path specified".
I have also tried to install it on the d: drive, I was able to navigate to the folder through "d:, cd vhdx" but I couldn't work through "DISKPART> select vdisk file=d:\vhdx\windows11.vhdx" it says there is no such file :(
I don't know what to do to fix it. I'll keep trying until it gives in :"DD

All I get wen trying to install windows on the attached disk is error 0x80300024

If I were to have two windows 10 installs, do I need two different activation keys for each install?

hmm why is it better than just having another disk? cant find why this is "smarter" the only advantage i can find is if sometimes you want to boot to the other os as an vm in hyper-v or something..
