How to SAFELY update Final Cut Pro (and macOS from less than Catalina)

I updated my OS to Catalina, updated my FCP. None of my effects works. It says i have to open them up in Motion, but for some reason when I go to app store it says it is not available in US. What do I do now?

Cool thanks. I have all my libraries backed up, so I think I’ll take your excellent tip of zipping (and probably backing up) the current FCP - then I think I’m safe to give both Catalina and latest FCP a whirl.

So basically, if you don't have any movies you're working on, you juste need to compress it, install catalina, delete the "new" final cut app, and unzip the old one ?

My one BIG question is IF FCPX 10.4.7 under Catalina makes MORE use of an External Graphics processor (like the Apple endorses Blackmagic 540 eGPU) now that their graphics have gone from Open API to Metal

Pleasantly surprised that the Adobe apps did not crash (as they did under the Mojave upgrade) so I guess Photoshop and Lightroom were already ready this time!

Mojave killed my new 2018 MacBook Pro - probably because Apple disabled the Admin Rights by default so the Update crashed during the IPL! No issue going to Catalina... had to because FCPX would not start w/o the Catalina upgrade...
