Rob clearly used 9-46 in E flat and knows it’s fine, but cannot accept 12-56 in B

Totally not worth the trouble. Just buy a 27" scale Baritone and be done with it.
The closest I get to a Baritone is to have 1 guitar I string with 12-52s and tune it D-G-C-F-A-D. Works fine. Once in a blue moon, I'll tune C#-F#-B-E-A-C#. Anything lower is Mud City for chords.

A 7 string would have been a better choice.

Thank you so much for this video. I recently bought an acoustic baritone to better suit my vocal range, and it was pretty awful out of the box. A good set up and much lighter strings (replaced 16-70 with 13-60) and it's pretty good now. I have been thinking about buying a longer neck and putting it on my Strat, G&L Legacy or Telecaster. Your video gives me another option to consider. C to C tuning is just fine, and the shorter neck is more comfortable to play open chords on IMO.

It should be said, you can do the reverse though, you can absolutely string and tune a baritone at concert pitch.

I use the Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinky (12-62) on my Les Paul Guitar in Drop B and it works well! the only thing that might bother some people is the wound G string but that's necessary for tuning this low imo

I actually put a set of.009 through .42 on a full 34 inch scale bass and tuned it to something like C standard once, sounded pretty cool, and for a single coil, the output of a Jazz Bass style (Lyon by Washburn) bridge pickup is pretty hot, but the intonation was definitely off higher on the neck and the strings were very far apart obviously. It was a cool sound though.

The lowest tuning that I'd go with a regular guitar is probably C with 12's. Lower than that, and I'd go Baritone.

So... I drilled holes, filed the nut and put bass strings on my guitar. Sounds quite country and western on a single coil pickup. 't Was an old cheap Stagg worth $30 but after butchering it the way I have, it's honestly surprisingly good haha!

Rewatched this one today. Was wondering if you could do the same sort of thing on an acoustic? Like a Taylor for example. The GS-Mini's are 7/8's scale, yet played at concert pitch, which begs the question "Could I put heavier gauge strings on my 414 and be acoustic baritoneesq?"

Excellent and fun video guys!! I have a Squier and decided to turn it into a baritone guitar to record my new album, initially i had many issues with intonation and stability in general so i decided to put on Ernie Ball 13-70 for baritone and they work like a charm. Im in drop A, but the thing i had to do is to move the bridge (not just the saddles but the entire piece) back a bit to compensate the intonation. Other than that, no other modifications were required. Thanks for the video and info!!

I tune to B standard on regular thin strings on my schector-demon and it holds and plays awesome. Got a death gripping sound to it. I don't see why people think they have to put heavier strings on? Heavier strings sound sluggish, thinner strings hold very well and still feels and sounds like a guitar and not a bass

I play an 18.75" tuned from C2 to B4 in all fifths. I use flat wounds, lowest string is an 0.080", highest is a 0.007". If that's possible, anything is possible. I think flat wounds might help with the inharmonic overtones, doesn't sound too bad to me but I'm stretching the bridge to its limits

My low-tuned guitar is 24.75" scale. I tune to C standard and I use .011's, which feel a bit more taut than you might expect at that pitch, but not to the point they're hard to play on. I had to re-intonate and tweak the truss rod, but it doesn't seem to have any adverse affects on the guitar or the sound.

I have not had an issue setting up my Les Paul's and PRS guitars to drop C and lower with 12-62 with the it issue. I only had to widen the nut slots a bit. Never had an issue on my guitars. I'd rather adjust the nut and bridge on my guitars than have to buy a new guitar, just for a low tuning.
