Seems you are teaching recruiters how to negotiate not employees

What is with all the creepy dudes online, stop objectifying her......she gave great advice.

If someone asked me what I'm looking for in the first/screener interview, then I usually state something along the lines of: I'm looking for the right fit so that I can continue to continue to grow in my career, at this time I've not researched how much the going rate is and I'm more focused on working with people that I think have good chemistry with and doing a job that interest me and allows for me to grow. I also state that I need to know more about the job before giving an accurate assessment. I also emphasize where I'd like to be in 5 years as a 'feeler' to see if they're are on board with my goals. If they ask for rough salary/hourly expectations, I then reference my highest offers, but I try to avoid giving the companies names unless they ask for it. I've usually been able to negotiate more than 15k more than initial offers. I also try not to rely on just one company's offer. Right now I'm finishing up grad school and I have 7 current offers (I applied to 22 companies, 18 companies I interviewed with and I'm still waiting to hear back from 4 of the ones that I interviewed with the past week), and I'm using each other as leverage for more compensation. For offers that are low, I always thank them for their time and wish them luck with their candidate search. I work in an industry that is small enough that you don't want to burn bridges. I had an offer for $73000 and I had an offer for $140,000 so there is quite a range for similar positions (based on a 40 hour work week salary and I would also be paid for straight time beyond 40 hours). One of my strategies is to befriend senior folks in the industry and to see what they think are the ranges in pay for that position, I use two of my academic mentors and I also use one of my former bosses who I have a good rapport with. I also never give my salary range and I try to avoid showing my hand in the first interview. With counter negotiations, I always ask for at least 10000 more than what I'm willing to sign, that gives me the necessary wiggle room. I hope this helps someone....

Advice: if you don't get offered what you say (even by a little bit), tell them to get lost and move on. Simple. Never sell yourself short for a greedy company.

I had a talk on salary in the first phone interview-whatever they said, I was okay with it. Do you think I should have raised this point in the second interview?

I missed so much of the information you presented... You're beautiful and that's very distracting! You need to do something with it... cannot concentrate.

What if a company decline your application and then call back with the same offer?

I took a Pre-employment exam designed to 'wash out' candidates. The Lead Recruiter sent me job description details, including a rate of $22/hr. I researched what the job was worth and found the same position and job description posted by the recruiting agency, although it was a hybrid role in another state at a rate of $25.93/hr.

How do you negotiate the other salary?

Performance review cycles are absolutely not negotiable at any legitimate company.... that would be such a liability. If the company has different cycles for different employees I'd consider that a huge red flag

Sadly if you are black you are not going to get paid as much as a white person and if you are Hispanic you are not going to get paid as much as a black or asian person.

Thank you for your beautiful presentation and information. All is true but as Ann mention companies post salary for some entry position and they still want to have the upper hand for negotiation. I really enjoyed and learned something new from you. All the best

This is out dated information. Most companies of any medium to large size has a pre determined salary range. Most employers ask you to state an expected salary on the website application and won't let you get away with leaving it blank.
