Instead of making the whole deck a 1/4" shorter, you could add a 1/4" fascia board to the rim joist to move the skirting out to match the decking.
ОтветитьI have to say I really appreciate you going through the process, including the foibles, mistakes and frustrations. So many building shows make it look so easy. But everytime there's something...and you need to figure it out.
ОтветитьI'd say a can of paint would look just right.
ОтветитьHome Depot... Butyl Joist Tape for under Decking Boards in East TN. 1-5/8''x50ft. use it on every deck I build.
ОтветитьI thought composite only had to be 12 inches on center if you were installing it on a horizontal? Your son kicked the left plastic piling to the right that's why it was outta square .
ОтветитьWasn't the quarter due to the sag in the measureing tape? Look at the video it's sagging.
ОтветитьWhen you depositioned the base the deck will no longer end flush with the edge of shed wall - isn't that going to bug you every time you see it?
ОтветитьWhat was poured into the squares before the black base was put down?
ОтветитьClosing out the property? I don't blame you man, that highway noise the whole video! And oh, this last summer I had to rebuild my deck, way bigger project than that. But boy, watching this I'm glad I went went regular wood. Although for some odd reason the lower portion of my deck was 10" on center, maybe it had to do with the fact that it was ground contact? IDK. To edge the deck I used a router, very clean nice edge, magic I learned from the Stud Pack channel!
ОтветитьThese new blocks look amazing; have worked with the concrete. Could they be used to make the floor of a shed?
ОтветитьWhen you cut pressure treated lumber WEAR A MASK!
ОтветитьWhat went wrong was at the second corner. The 5 feet mark ought to have been checked with the inner side of the board and not the outside of the board. The error is equal to about the width of the board.
ОтветитьBeen wondering through all these videos-What are you doing with all that grass underneath?
ОтветитьThis is not a DIY for beginners.....I had no idea what was being measured in the beginning and no beginner should be shown a board being cut on a knee.
ОтветитьCan four nails really take the place of a joist hanger? I'd like to see the code section for that.
ОтветитьYou're a gifted teacher
ОтветитьHi I have just found your videos and you give great info. I have built a deck before but had issues with rats, can you recommend anything to stop this.... By the way we had three cats and they did not stop them.
ОтветитьFu
ОтветитьFacts you couldn't have said it no better
The supply trade is getting more weirder and crazy as we speak. Stuff that used to be routine is like trying to find gold on the moon
Nicely done!
ОтветитьJust wondering... Why do we pitch/slope patios and pads, but not decks?
ОтветитьTrex Protect Joist Tape at Home Depot peeled off great for me!
ОтветитьI just watched this video at 2X speed. I'm ready to build my deck 10X Faster! I should be done in about 10 mins.
ОтветитьI like it because when he makes mistakes he shows them
ОтветитьI always thought that Canadians used metric.
ОтветитьWhat about the grass beneath the floor?
ОтветитьLove your videos and LOVE the frogs in the background!! Thank you for making my days pleasant.
Ответить+ repairs, maintenance cost overtime.
ОтветитьIf you worked from the front in, you wouldn't need to add the extra wood. Just have a cut decked board against the shed wall.
ОтветитьCan I use screws instead of 4 nails at the end of each joist?
ОтветитьAs someone with minimal DIY experience, I appreciated how this video simplified the deck-building process. The tips for efficiency and the easy-to-follow demonstrations were incredibly helpful, making it seem like a doable project even for beginners.
ОтветитьI have cleaned many wood decks and fence in Ohio. I didn’t use a pressure cleaner but used a brush , not as stiff , WITHOUT HANDLE and a SPONGE! That stick keeps u from getting in corners. And u have to stand back which wears out your arms more. U could have used the small piece u cut off to do corners. I got down and dirty .
Only thing about staining or painting is that if u do use a pressure cleaner later when it gets dirty again is that some of the paint or stain chips off.
You’re right, we are in Fl now and there was only a cement back patio so my then husband had recycled wood put in. After so many years he had it painted a redwood color instead of staining. There is a drain but the water didn’t flow that way so last year (he died a few yrs ago) I had someone put in a new drain but the water is still sitting not even in that area.
The wood is dipping and weak in one big area from the water sitting there. I think that joint tape sounds like an excellent idea. Well now it’s up to me to figure out what to do. I imagine I would have to get a whole new deck . It’s actually the floor of a screened in patio. We were in construction “roofing” and everyone knows a guy who knows a guy , but I don’t and it’s very difficult here to get ethical people who are good and take pride in what they do and charge the most.
In Ohio of course years ago, we never hired anyone for anything and figured it all out ourselves with our Dads help & guys learned that way. No one wants to do any physical lanor or most weren’t taught or just watched their parents!
Soon , we’ll have a lot of college educated poor people who don’t know and traits! I see it now just like you mentioned how materials and supplies are made now . I call them throwaways so you’re always spending money buying something more INNOVATIVE, lol which is worse. Thank you as I learned a lot and I hope maybe you did also 😊 Gail
I have always done a picture frame around the edge so you have 45 degree joints at the corners. This will allow you to do the same size overhang all around.
ОтветитьAdjust your miter to make the corner meet - it doesn’t have to be 45*
ОтветитьZIP tape
ОтветитьA square is a parallelogram
ОтветитьHi Jeff,
Are you still in Florida. Are close to Tampa Bay Area. I have a project that I need help with. And screened in porch that I would like to enclose. 12 by 28. I would love to see you work on it and video it.
My decks are post hole floaters 36” down. That composite is nice but are hot and bow in summer and can ice slick when wet.
ОтветитьOnce that window is replaced ,head to princess auto and get an $80 trailer hitch mounted bed extender for the next 12 foot load ! Another great video 🎉
ОтветитьI had commentary going as I watched this but my cat stepped on my keyboard and changed videos so I lost what I was saying. LOL.
I wonder if camo blocks can be used for deck stairs. Good to know about the 12" on center for the composite boards.
Planning to put a small landing (not attached to the house) outside the back door. I wonder if I need the blocking between joists for that.
Peeling the backing off of tape is the bane of my existence. I always have a hard time with it. LOL.
Ugh. sorry about your truck's window. That is never fun when it breaks.
Hmm.. I don't even know if I will do fascia boards on my landing. Nobody but my family and the critters will see it.
I see you poured a concrete pad for a step at the end. Looks nice.
Canadians say “com poe sit” we say “cum pos it”
ОтветитьThe video simplifies the seemingly daunting task of building a deck, offering clear and efficient techniques that cater to beginners. With time-saving tricks and easy-to-follow instructions, it turns what could be a complicated project into an accessible and rewarding DIY experience.
ОтветитьDid you pre-spray under the deck to eliminate grass and weeds?
ОтветитьI've been building Trex decks professionally for 30 years. You would not be allowed on my jobsite. This job is a disaster. I suggest that you read the Trex installation guide. That POS that you built does not pass any code in the country nor does it qualify for Trex warranty. Terrible.
ОтветитьSo luv the how to tips, tricks, mistakes and how to correct it methods ❤❤❤
ОтветитьI like the screws too. Gotta love how Jeff throws the board over hi knee and cuts it. How about a hidden joist hanger for the end joists?
ОтветитьEverything looks good.. But if you are a little long on the end, why not snap a line an 1/8 or 1/4 in plus the offset from the saw and make the straight cut?
ОтветитьHaha when i saw you move that block i already saw it was going to be out of square
ОтветитьHey Jeff, I would have used a router with a 45* bit and a bearing to get my offset. Perfect every time.
