This is one of the best and most comprehensive pieces of analytical media I’ve ever seen. I adore the way you write and your ability to peer beyond the regular praise of this show and really understand this show as the piece of art it is.

And then – BOOOOM – there's the funeral scene.
Can't tell how many times I've watched it, but it still gives me goosebumps each time.

I just finished it. Best star wars content in a long time and a great stand alone series itself.

Rogue 1 was a sad spectacle, full of Disney trademark absurds people somehow only started noticing in later products. We had a bad boy girl and not one, not two, but what feels like a dozen token minority characters hilariously competing for screentime without having anything to do. We had studio meddling and reshoots resulting in sloppy storytelling, we had uncanny valley dead actors and memberberries dangling here and there, obvious like Christmas tree ornaments. It was also a penultimate Disney Star Wars product I ever saw. After watching Rogue 1 and The Force Awakens, I promised myself I won't be fooled for a third time. Unlike most Star Wars fans I don't enjoy consuming fecal matter.

Anyway, your soothing voice almost made me toy with an idea of breaking that promise. Good job!

I disagree with there is nothing like it in Star Wars when the clone wars series exist

The beauty of Star Wars being a huge franchise with such storytelling potential
Genevieve O Reilly had a background part in ROTS
Would’ve been more if the other scenes had been kept in the movie
She comes back for rogue one , and Rebels after Disney bought it
And now she delivers one of the most subtle and fantastic performances I’ve ever seen
Truly in the right hands Star Wars is a gift , and an actress who lost out in exposure in 2005 now has the chance to shine in a masterfully written political thriller it’s incredible

AGREE! - I guess Kathleen Kennedy took her eye off of this ball on this one, resulting in the artists making some art instead of a studio producing product.

just finished this masterpiece as a casual star wars fan. it was even better then the OT. it has real depth and finally expend the universe rather to reduce it to memberberries

What Andor did for the macro, Kenobi should’ve done for the micro.

I desperately wanted Kenobi to be the mature slow burn story. The character piece that goes in depth into a broken man. I had no issue with the Leia storyline anyway, it’s a nice little Old Knight gets called back into action to rescue a princess.

I would’ve been happy with 3 episodes at an hour and a half each. Lenovo’s character deserved more respect in regards to the writing.

Andor was not a slow burn. I love its pacing…it was a 12 episode series…every 3 episodes was its own mini movie…the escape from… the burglary, the prison escape, and back to the start of the rebellion

An oustanding analysis of this brilliant series. This series is the absolute anti-sequel trilogy in every way. It does everything that the JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson fiasco didn't do. It has a solid, complex and relevant story. It has real and identifiable characters. But most of all, it takes George Lucas' vision and treats it with the most profound respect and care, without pandering to the fanbase with cheap nostalgic gimmicks. The sequel trilogy was an insult to the fans and to Lucas. This series couldn't be any further from that and I hope George Lucas has seen it and feels gratified that someone like Tony Gilroy has taken his world and actually improved upon it.

This fantastic show works for all the reasons you mention but also because of some of the parallels maturing within our own real lives. This current administration is in many ways increasingly acting like the Empire, without bounds, as if the restrictions of the Constitution do not exist. We the people are starting feel the oppression of a government intent in destroying us for their own political power. The two tiered justice system, the weaponization of the justice system, the attacks on our personal wealth via inflation and expansion of bureaucracy, the courts refusing to hear election fraud questions, ridiculous covid lockdowns for virus you have to be tested to know you have where the vax cure is far more dangerous than the original disease, etc. Whether people realize it or not, they are feeling this. Casian is forced into becoming a rebel against his will. He was always living on the edge of the system but never had any interest in joining the bigger fight. How many in society are being placed in this same position today?

I never understood the arguments of a lot of die hard star wars fans. The Star Wars universe is a huge and unexplored world so why only focus on one small group in one small story? Show us what its like to be a normal person in this galaxy, not just a super hero.

Now that you mention it it does seem like Andor along with Solo and Rouge One has that late 1970s feel to to it, some of hair styles are such and the course the imperial uniforms and civilian clothing reflect that as well. The prisoner clothes also are homage to Space 1999

Andor was a great series about space fantasy, but it wasn't Star Wars. My best analogy is if The Big Bang Theory was set in the Star Wars universe and replaced a character with a Twi'lek. Sure it has Star Wars characters in it and takes place on Tatooine, but that's not what makes Star Wars, Star Wars. At the end of the day, it's just The Big Bang Theory but Sheldon is a Twi'lek. Andor is great, but it would be just as great as a completely new IP that had nothing to do with the Star Wars universe.

Andor resuscitates that feeling that the empire is a beast sitting astride the universe with its fingers curled around the throat of freedom with an iron grip that sends a chill down one's spine. There are so many shots where a character is set against a vast back drop reducing them to a cog in the great machine.

Plus some of the writers that made the jason borne movies wrote this show.

My wife didnt lile andor cause she thought it was too boring cause of the talking.

Man, andor had so much tension within conversations, world building, and the action was the icing on the cake.

Rogue One and Andor are the best Star Wars since the original trilogy. It is, in my opinion, the best Star Wars possible and it's absolutely great.
I'm not talking about the "style" of the series and film, that could vary; i'm talking about everything else it does masterfully.
I wish Disney would stick to this kind of shows (in this bag i'm including Mandalorian S1 and other stuff) and don't make of the "far far away" galaxy the same dumpster fire of Marvel.
Sadly I think Andor suffered from both the backlash of the rather mediocre content that Disney made at the same time with more "popular" SW stories, and also from the "tik tok minded" people that cannot stand a fil/series to take it's time to properly develope characters and plot.

I 100% agree with everything you said in this video. It is one of the purest forms of Star Wars we've seen since the original trilogy. And I hope they follow through and finish it. I think of it as a mini-saga within the overall saga. I would love to see a second season to wrap up the story of the formal start of the rebellion. Then see the original, darker version of Rogue One in a re-release. Although that's probably never going to happen, but I felt like the darker version would fit as an ending to this series. Great job on the video.
