What happens between the countries involved is their business, but there seems to be a large consensus even between the people in East Africa that the core 5 (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda) should work to unify before they bring in South Sudan and The DRC. Stability should be the main focus for these countries and these 5 are at-least stable enough to lay a foundation for this. Bringing in South Sudan and The DRC might just end up holding the union back, there is more than enough time for South Sudan and maybe even the DRC, Somalia, and Ethiopia to join down the line.

The drc should not stay there. Uganda rwanda ans burundi are bad countries for congo. They killed to much. The drc is rich enough alone they should improve by themself and not give their current problems to other countries like tanzania

This is a terrible idea why dont we give the africans of all people a super power todo whatever they want with… aka theyd start another world war 😂 african in shambles partly due to colonialism but the main fact is they dont know how to get along with people let alone themselves this would definitely be a no go in my book

Remember before the European invasion Africa was not so divided as it is today. It may not of been peaceful, but it was not so harshly divided and a joined group can do more to help each other, and then we may still have the natural diversity saved for future generations, by not cutting down more of it to survive with the smaller borders as it now stands.

It sounds awesome, but most African countries can't even keep themselves from devolving into ethnic conflict on their own as it is. Hell, Somalia is ethnically homogenous and even it is stuck in a state of eternal civil war. A HUGE country made up of different African countries with their crappy colonial borders might just spontaneously combust. If the borders of Africa were redrawn so as to accomidate the ethnolinguistic, historical and cultural boundaries much of it could easily get better just from that. Also Ethiopia should have Eritrea back. Restore Ethiopia empire.

Not african so I don't feel my opinion holds weight, but I'm not sure adding DRC, south sudan and somalia to the EAF would be a good idea, at least not initially, those regions are far too unstable and could hold back development in the rest of the nations. I believe that ideally it would be best to EAF to develop without those countries at first, focus on stability and growth and only then, proceed to annex the other nations. A stabilized EAF would make the addition of something like DRC much more smooth than just jumbling it up together at once.

With South Sudan, Congo and Somalia joining the EAC. It looks like deeper political and economic integration is becoming increasingly distant. They should’ve stuck with the original five, then gradually advanced from there.

If this proposed federation allows workers to own and control the means of production, then I'm all for it, but if it's just another capitalist dystopia, then the African people will be no better off than they are now.

These nations have no common history, culture or language. A common market and currency might work, but political integration would be impossible.

As a citizen of DRC, I see no real economic gain for us in this stupid EAC thing … only first entrants comin here to loot our resources and refine dem in their land … DRC does not need this EAC … we only need good governance to develop our economy… I hope our next leader can roll back this stupid ass policy to join EAC … we don’t need you guys …

Somalia is joining too, this is good for all members because all members will share resources that are needed to get EAF off the ground at first. The non-development of poorer nations isn't a factor, because money will be flowing like water.

The most damaging part of colonialism's legacy was when the colonial powers built nations out of multiple tribes. Since the head of state has to be just one guy, that means that a lot people in each nation lived under a government run by a member of a different tribe. Maybe the tribes got along well before this, but when the stakes got higher the contention became fiercer, making wars between tribes even more likely. If a tribe can't get behind a leader of a different tribe, then put them all back on their original tribal land and make that land a single nation of its own.

@strattgatt5303
@strattgatt5303 - 10.12.2023 22:17

Colonialism was not the real problem. Dont believe liberal teachers and their racist reimaginings of real life. Africa's problem is geography. There are almost no shipping routes because the ocean is very shallow off the coast, so large ships cannot get close.
