Doyle Dean here, I stopped by Ellenberg to witness the installation of NCPR's transmitter, WELN, 88.9. I'd never seen this before so it was a real treat. I've experienced the dead space between Plattsburgh and Malone plenty of times, it's really cool that we are able to fix this problem. An antenna was custom-built, sent to us, then a crew from Rutland Vermont climbed the tower and installed it. It's tricky stuff, this is radio and all. Science-y stuff. They even needed a surveyor on site to make sure it's pointed at the correct angle. I heard words like Azimuth and Vector. What are these people talking about ? When you wait around for something, it's inevitable, at some point it's GO TIME that's when you see Kurt yelling up to the tower. Next thing you know they flip the switch and we're on. Seems pretty easy. It's not. But all you need to know is this: tune to 88.9 near Ellenberg and enjoy our new signal. If you roll down your window and sniff you might even smell the fresh radio waves in the air.
