AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Review: Odd Man Out vs. 9700K, R5 3600, & 3900X

Hey. I know its an old video. But my 3700x benches at 4.65 @1.425vc, all core, no fiddling, yes at 4.7 on all core bench it bluescreens, I did not boost voltage, as the 4.65 is pretty good comparing to stock (people said - don't push your luck without liquid with higher voltage). User bench points to 103% cpu performance - which is off scale of the greenline. 157 single, 310 2 core, 614 4 core and 1195 8 core 1654 16 core.

32 GB 3600mhz CL 16 21 21 20 36 Vengeance LPX 3600 4 x 8GB, fc around 548-560 timings.
MSI RTX 3090 OC Pads upgraded.
1000W PSU
BQ be quiet! Shadow Rock 3, BK004, 190W TDP cooler. 2 x fans, pull and exhaust.

Is this a lucky CPU die?

3D Mark Cpu profile benchmark, max peak temp 90C, average at 61-70C, high load peaks at 80C, Score - 797 - 7071.

GPU utilization increased, in many games, much needed for the 3090 here. Worked out great with OC.

I always had the system stock with above memory timings, but before upgrade, I decided to see what it can do - in OC. So now I don't want to upgrade the CPU. LoL. I play at 4k anyway and now its just a slightly better experience.


What kind luck did you have with 3700x?

The 3700x runs nice and cool in my mini-ITX system under load with the included cooler. After 3 years it still handles my software development tasks with aplomb. I use my systems for work, not games - a heresy.

The most interesting information from this benchmark test is that the 3700X does not benefit from over clocking.

Unless you’re going for the 3900 I don’t get why you would get a ryzen cpu over the 3600. The 3700 and 3800 don’t seem to give you that much of an improvement

Now that the R7 3700X is $60 cheaper than an R5 5600X how does the R7 fit?

2/22/20 Snagged the R7-3700x for $265.- with a 240r Aio i run it @ 4.5ghz with temps under 73c 🎮 great Cpu if you can find it under three hundred bucks & with all new titles using more Cores 🍷

isnt this chip better at multiple things and not just gaming. like streaming and gaming at the same time

3700x is a good CPU. I've bought it recently while choosing between it and 5600x.

Such a large jump going from the 2600 to a 3700 on these charts. Looks like I know what my next upgrade is going to be.

Got my 3700x for a great deal and it's a huge increase from my 8350 which my god served me well for so long .

So, if I'm going from a i7 2600k clocked at around 4ghz and do both a bit of gaming and production with photoshop, music production and video editing I'd probably be pleased about a 3600x? I wouldn't mind paying 1000SEK (120usd) less

I'm currently watching this about to upgrade my computer for the first time since 2014 (r9 380 2gb, fx ,6300) prices/availability on basically everything is non-existent so I'm going the prebuilt route and putting my own decent ssd storage into an HP prebuilt. I would like to have the extra threads on tasks and since they aren't offering a 3600 on the computer I picked out I'm watching this to decide if I should move upmarket.

Well you just saved me a lot of time and money. I was considering replacing my i7-8700 with the 3700X but my three year old CPU comes out better in almost every benchmark

I love how intel is only better in games.

I don't care about gaming performance (it's already fine for me) or video editing or rendering. However, I want to be able to have practically infinite programs running and not slow down when I switch between them. Does it make sense to get 3700x over 3600? 9700K and 3900X are a bit higher than I want to pay.

Although I mainly do some gaming, still gotten this because it isn’t expensive and I rather spent a little more on decent processor hopefully in future more applications and games utilize more cores.

It's a hard decision between 3600 and 3700x if you want to produce on Adobe photoshop, illustrator, etc. and planning not to update for 5years.
I mean, I think that the extra cores will be useful in the future, but is 3700x 66% expensive than 3600...

What cpu would be best I'm doing an £800 build the PC will be used for mostly gaming but continuous work and could you recommend any GPU's that would pair well with it.

I love my Ryzen 3600 and rx580 8gb rig just built last week in getting 60fps on nearly very high at 1920x1080p. Upgraded from a 2600k which served me so bloody well over the 9 years

I just built my first SFF build with this R7 3700X + AIO and I cannot be more happy. I use it for rendering and some gaming, and a 3900 was over my budget.

figures this video pops up right after I bought a 3700X, that said I only paid 260 for it.

Late to the party, but I see another use case for the r7 3700x over the r5 3600.. 144hz+ gaming in low settings for current and future online competitive gaming where you can get CPU bottlenecked quite quickly if you're trying to keep a comfortable "margin" of framerate over your display's refresh rate. Streaming and occasional heavy workload tasking favors the r7 too, the price is right?!

When he say "gaming only" does that mean running nothing else at all? As in, no music, no discord chat, nothing at all?
