This is an excellent video. I was born bilingual and so I was cursed with perfect native accents in both languages. I've always wanted an italian accent speaking english and now I have the tools to practice faking it 😅!

I play an Italian character at my local RenFest, and so many people, including a few Italian speakers actually thought I was from Italy. I remember watching this video and really thinking about everything I was saying and how I was saying it for a few months leading up to my audition, as well as sending it to an Italian friend of mine. Needless to say, these tips are VERY helpful and accurate.

I speak Telugu (South Indian language) (16th most spoken language in the world) and it's called Italian of the east because all the words in my language ends with vowels as well but still my accent is Indian😅

Thank you I have been looking for something like this that isnt made by a fucking American. I am American and trying to practice the Italian accent for an audiobook audition and the author wants most of the character to have an Italian accent. But he wants the narrator and main character to be genralized American English. I didn't want to submit an audition that sounded inauthentic but I was struggling to find anyone that wasn't just american. I used a really weird search sentence to find this because "How to do an authentic Italian accent" didnt give many good results. This is a great start for me!

Italians shouldn't pronounce English words in an English sort of way. We will understand either way.
Also, the italian accent is beautiful and speaking english with such an accent is only enhancing it! Grazie❤

My acquintenance with Italian is fairly superficial to take the following for what it is worth. Everything in this video seems correct as far as I can tell BUT one thing it describes puzzles me: the Italian tendency to try to end all words with some sort of vowel speaking English. This is undeniably true but I have also noted that Italians drop final vowels all the time in their informal, everyday speech, at least in some parts of the country. So words ending in in consonants cant be all that strange to an Italian ear. What gives here?

After having gone to Italy and hearing people from Italy speaking English, im guessing this is a heavily forced accent or just more forced than needed

I'm trying to figure out why my Italian makes me sound like I am speaking with a German accent. I know it has something to do with the way I pronounce consonants. There's a bit of staccato to it. I also believe I have a similar characteristic when I speak my native tongue, American English. Perhaps this is why people always say, where are you from? I don't know why I do this. I can sometimes hear it in recordings.

Don't forget one thing about accents, it might be important to let know to your interlocutors that you are italian/french/whatever...
There is for exemple a typical french accent in the catering industry, even french people speaking very well english use a kind of french/english pidgin by communicating to customers and reporters, to enhance their 'french cuisine style'... Also valid for some 'pizzaioli' and other flirties...

I think you could have explained the open closed syllable reasons for the vowel proncunciation (usually long vs short) with the double consonant. We were taught vowel + single consonant+ silent e, but in reality, in English just as in Dutch, this is vowel + single consonant + most endings (-e, -ing, etc.) for a long vowel, and in most cases a short vowel with a double consonant or consonant cluster.

I was in a Discord party with many non-Italian participants. Well, this British guy said to me "God, I love that Italian accent!". I was kinda "happppy" (lol) to hear that, but honestly I never bothered about my Italian accent when speaking English/German. For me having an accent it's cool and gives uniqueness to an individual.
