I think that what you say is true. But being from a Baptist then swapping to Mormon, I found that both to fill most check boxes. If you check historically the romans thought Christians were cultists, which they were. The main thing nowadays is we should be able to agree on is that religion is just a form of a cult. Saying the LDS is not real just because it is a cult should not be a used as an argument. Love the videos too

When people go on Mormon missionaries where do they go? Do we have Mormons in Florida I don't believe I've ever seen a Mormon missionary. Maybe they're battling with the Scientologists and things aren't going well.

Lex, I know you may never see this, but I just wanted to say a few things. I am a 21 year old who is pretty active in the Church. I have never had any doubts about my testimony or a bad experience with the leadership, but I know that isn't the same experience everyone has. I really can't understand how you feel, but I want you to know that although you must have faced some pretty negative experiences, God still loves you, and in a very inadequate and shallow way (as I have never truly met you) I love you because we are all family. I am sad to see you have such a hostile feeling towards the Church of Jesus Christ, but I respect you tried to do what you felt was best for your family. I just want to ask you to take a bit and think on, even (especially I would suggest) pray about if God wants you in this Church. Or if you struggle with the idea of Him being there, pray and ask if He is there and if He loves you. I can't ever deny the miracles that have occurred in my life, and so I know He answers prayers, and loves His children. You are a precious daughter, and anyone who belittles you or tries to bring you down is not representing what your Savior, Jesus Christ wants for you. Hope you do well. I will say a prayer for you and your family. Everyone deserves happiness.

You mentioned other cults that you were familiar with. What are they? How familiar are you with them? How do they compare to Mormonism?

You mentioned hymn singing and temple ordinances as hypnotic. Other churches have hymn singing, too. Do you also consider them cults? You might also consider conference talks as hypnotic. Ever been to a Catholic mass. That's mind-numbingly hypnotic.

I consider organized religion of any kind to be cult-like. I was raised in the church and have some very good memories, and I love to sing hymns, but it's a cult. I was also in Scientology for a couple of years. If you have ever watched John Dehlin and Mike Rinder together, comparing notes, there are lots of similarities.

That said, there are a lot of great fundamental principles in both Mormonism (actually not in the church, but in the teachings of Christ), and there are a lot of great fundamental principles in Scientology (but you have to go back to the Eastern religions to find them.)

The problem is, somebody had a mystic experience at one time, and somebody else came along and codified and monetized it, and turned it into a McReligion. I left both Mormonism and Scientology and actually found God and the realities of life, outside of organized religion. They all have their secrets, and once you discover their secret, you no longer owe them your money or your life.

The sleep one I would say yes, seminary caused me severe lack of sleep. I was an athlete, and so many times I wouldn’t get home until midnight or 1 AM after an away game. My parents would still make me go to seminary no matter what. My dog died unexpectedly and I found out at 1 AM, and my dad still made me go to seminary the next morning. I had sleep issues and most of the time couldn’t fall asleep till beyond 1 AM even if I was home in bed, and no matter what… Seminary. Because health of their children did not matter as much as obeying and abiding and looking good to the other church members.

BITE Model: once again, the LDS church does not fit this description. You don't have to get permission from bishop for cremation. That's the only option in most parts of the world. I'm getting cremated and did not need permission. We are NOT forbidden from speaking with ex-mormons. In fact, when I wrote up letters of excommunication, they were invited back to church the following week. Most got reinstated as members within one year. People with doubts get ex'd primarily due to making those views public on social media (think John Dehlin) and publicly try to defame the church. The church does not shun members. If their family does, their idiots. The churches that may fit almost all of the BITE model are: Moonies, Children of God, Jonestown, David Karesh, and Scientology. Maybe JWs is you stretch it.

I think it’s a yes for depriving its members of sleep, the sheer amount of church things throughout the week is insane, especially for the youth that have early morning seminary. I was so sleep deprived in high school having to go to early morning seminary, school and I was a high school athlete with practice everyday, then add in Wednesday night mutual, visiting teaching, and FHE, that’s not even including extra church activities on the weekends, or personal scripture study and SO much more the church expects it’s members to do. My mom was also SUPER Mormon so we would do scripture study BEFORE I left for seminary, and my senior year I did competition dance including being part of my high school dance team... I truly do not know how I did everything, I was lucky if I got even 5 hours of sleep.

So I am not Mormon I have never been to a meeting but I have heard a lot of ex-mormon people talk about what they went through and even though they were never deprived of their seven to nine hours of sleep directly I do remember them being run ragged to the point where they were exhausted all the time because they constantly had to live to the church standard and be helping other people all the time to the point where it was sacrificing their sleep and health.

Having being bought up from age of 7 in the Mormon church, baptised age of 8,then baptised in the temple for many dead people,I can remember feeling privileged.I now feel numb, who were these people? did they want it, does it actually mean anything? did I just waste my time ? Those moments after of euphoria made me feel special...Now I have no idea what these people did to me as a child..Semenary school before school, denied me of friends, and even my own excommunicated father....Im still on the fence, this is how much they indoctrinate .....Im 50 years old left when I was 17, yet still feel under the spell, sing all the hymns, feel guilty every time I dont bless my food or say a prayer at bed time, even give anyone a firm hand shake coz thats what Mormons do !!!

•Restrict or control sexuality :

Law of chastity is there to protect people from sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, fatherless children, adultery etc.......

•Control clothing and hairstyle :

Wear a suit to church on sunday. Its hardly control when asking people just to wear their Sunday best

Temple garments are worn to remind you that you have taken a vow of chastity therefore garments have potential to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, abortion etc......

•regulate what and how much you eat and drink :

Word of wisdom is there to protect your health and body from harmful and addictive substances like tobacco, alcohol, cocaine (which is illegal by the way ) etc........

I have recently lost 2 very close friends to alcohol and drugs. Both only aged 45 too and both have left kids behind. If they had known about the word of wisdom and followed it then they would still be alive today

•exploit you financially

The law of tithing is in the bible itself

It's not just a simple cult, it's a harassing cult. A week ago I was involved in an argument with the husband of a cult member(not sure if he's totally indoctrinated). Now his wife is of a mind set of complete if not irritable indifference. It was as if she was involved in the discussion, dismissing any opinion that deviated from her cultish own. Lots of hypocrisy and lots of proxy. Later that night, at dusk, a couple of cult members were summoned. My neighbor had no idea. I could tell immediately something was up. They started asking religious questions and if they could call us. My neighbor said sure. He figured he was going to get laid. They asked me if I followed Jesus, I replied you mean Yeshua? Well I met him a few times....then I declared I was the true messiah and help up my right hand to reveal a round scar on my wrist. They got the hint and never returned. Neither has the cult wife's husband. In a nut shell, they're wicked. They remind me in many ways of Jehovah's Witness members. The cult wife or someone connected thought they could summon some demons and attack me. The 2 dumb broads prayed with my neighbor with their eyes closed as he stared at their tits. They never called him though....

Pathetic how people who leave the LDS Church love to cry victim and pretend they had to go through absolutely ANY of the mental, emotional, or physical abuse and manipulation and coercion. including doctrinally enforced shunning, that a Jehovah's Witness has had to go through.
You people make me sick. Why don't you escape from an ACTUAL MIND CONTROL CULT instead of trivializing REAL ABUSE THAT ACTUAL CULT VICTIMS HAVE HAD TO ACTUALLY ESCAPE?!?!

The shunning is so subtle but 100% there.Very similar to the way Joseph Smith made dishonesty look like honesty. Being around "family" that thinks you're lost, lacking the "truth,"treating you differently after leaving the cult is shunning.
The music, the "reverence," not being able to show certain emotions like anger keeps you in a state of mind that is very similar to the frequency of when you are just about ready to fall asleep or just beginning to wake up. They keep you in an extremely lulled state of mind. This is the state of mind that humans are most vulnerable to influence or in the Mormon church.. brainwashing.

If we classify the LDS Church as a "cult," we must include with it every other right-wing religious group (Scientology, Southern Baptists, Assemblies of God, Christian Missionary Alliance., Foursquare, Pentecostal, Word of Faith movement and most of the megachurches). BITE model is kind of an all-or-nothing type of deal (like a doctor's diagnosis). It was written for Scientologists, Moonies and followers of Jim Jones. I just want to be sure of what I think before I begin painting labels on everything that pisses me off.
