My ex girl got huge. She was a little thick when we got together, I don’t mind it wasn’t totally unhealthy. But she nested, she weighed like 230 by the time I broke it off. It wasn’t all about her weight but that was part of it. But only 3 years she went from maybe 140? To 230? What are you doing to yourself? She had mental illness struggles, sad. That’s no way to go through life. It’s not fair that chemical imbalance in the brain stuff isn’t nice, that’s not nurture it’s more nature.

Yeah sure!, blame the genes., BUTT, I think obesity gets a boost in childhood. How? The 'murikan menu!. Full of zhit! And that's why those people are full of it. I know some families where the everyday's main menu was a "nutritious" huge bowl of nachos, pletorical of yellow govt cheese and a pantry full of generic coke or similars from the dollar store watching Sports and tv junk all day long! I saw some old photos of both parents @ wedding, and they look very normal. A few years latter, both parents and 3 kids (early 20's) got pathetically obese ranging from 300 to 400 lbs. Want another example? Go to walmart jus for fun and look for some fat people, and pay atention to the type of groceries they're buying, and many times you'll notice their children are within the normal weight range. Meanwhile blame Mexicans for it too..

I am also very fat, over 300 pounds and used to be a fitness nut years ago. I don’t think I’m as depressed as the guy that was writing in. Because I do have the will to live. I know how to get in shape working on that. It’s a process and it’s painful. One thing I will say is that most likely the depressed obese gentleman that was writing in is not addicted. Most people that think they are actually are not. Thinking you’re addicted makes it so much easier to not make a change. The obese gentleman and Bill and myself just have to feel the damn feelings in order to get better. This ain’t my first rodeo. Just a little out of practice. But I know we can change if we want it

This guy is clearly crying out for help. Addiction is almost always the result of underlying psychological baggage that you've been carrying for years and haven't addressed. Bill is actually giving some solid advice here. If you want that monkey off your back, you need to do some self reflection to figure out the source of your pain, and then take steps to release it.

The thing that strikes me about this letter is how the guy clewrly differentiates between people who "shame" him and people who try to persuade him to lose weight. It sounds a little bit that he actually does want someone to convince him to try and lose weight.


The thing is, you cant ask other people to fight your battles for you. It's not someone else's job to convince you not to treat yourself poorly, or go on living. Because you'll always be able to come up with another reason, another excuse, until they get tired of arguing and just give up, and then you "won". Either make the change or dont, but dont act like other people have something to do with it.

That fat guy thinks having a heart attack is painless. It isn't, feels like drowning. Losing weight isn't incredibly difficult if one eliminates sugar, flour and alcohol from the diet.

Although I was lean and mean most of my life, I'm very overweight now. I try to maintain a low carb diet, but having had my thyroid removed, and at age 71 any physical exercise is agony, weight loss options are limited to me.

That being said, I get where this guy is coming from. I too hope no one finds me while I'm having a heart attack. I don't fear the reaper, but at the same time I want my end to be a suprise, so suicide's off the table.

It's got less to do with being fat, then it does with the world at large. At 71 idealism is long dead in me. No matter who cries what, the world just gets shitier and shitier.

But until my "Heart Surprise", I'll just keep taking what little pleasure I can out of life, including listening to your jokes. Keep on knockin' em dead Bill... You Rock!

It's weird, I've always worked out to get into better shape but I never saw results until I stopped eating carbs. I stopped eating breads, cereal and pasta & I lost 40 lbs in 4 months. It's like my body WANTS to store carbs. I miss Pumpernickel but i like being able to see my feet more.
