Maaate - don't beat yourself up!
Just look forwards and make your best decision 'now'.
(Yes, my armchair is very comfy!) :)

Please chance your mind.
Since the beginning you were so full of positive thinking.
I like your empathetic manner, your hopeful thinking.

The way is your passion...
( In German: "Der Weg ist das Ziel")
You are strong.
Go on.

See you tomorrow.
The best wishes from the Middle-Rhine.

Eating an elephant one bite at a time :-) Thanks always for your updates Conrad! Loving 'being onboard' with you on this amazing adventure - a privilege for you to participate and a privilege for us to follow the adventure with you. Greetings from the home of the Springboks ;-)

There haven't been many opportunities across the fleet to make up ground in this trip across the south. This was a definite possibility and one of the most interesting plays to follow.

It's hard on body and soul, specially when you are close to your country.
Come on a few weeks more, and you can have a long rest.

Between us, those froggys are not normal. Sane people should not do this.
Sailing is fun when you have nice temperature, nice wind, nice company, and are not hyped up to go fastest.

Dear Conrad, clearly bothered by a kind of frustration regarding Borneo and some other nonsense. I also imagine that due to the power of the geographical site in which you find yourself, those psychological inspirations are valid and very true, I agree with you; but friend: this is not the time or place to lose energy. Concentrating to look for options and running to Le Cam can inspire you to make a difference and also, say hello when you leave her at the stern to the beautiful Violette... send her my regards too! Conrado, please connect with this fabulous opportunity you have and remain as humble as ever, a little more aggressive (you will know), but do it! Good bow!

If you had simply followed the group, you would not have had the chance. Good on you for taking the riskier option.

One thing I have learned about sailing is that you don't pass other boats by following them.
Sometimes an alternative course will pay off big, sometimes less so, but you have to try something different to the boats in front.

Never doubt yourself Conrad. There is a fine line between risk and reward however, you will not have the reward without taking those risks. Following your gut is always going to carry both.
Thank you for your honest reports...I find them very entertaining and encouraging. Life is not linear so I guess neither is sailing! Stay safe sailor😊 from Portugal

Conrad! Thanks for the update. You took a chance ...and as you point out, you've not "lost" any place at this point, so appreciate your willingness to continue to take risks. Like the solo breakaway artist (Thomas De Gendt is my favorite) in the peloton knows, sometimes they pay off and sometimes not... view this as a free exploratory excursion away from the others and hopefully you can take something - however small - from it and keep fighting. As you learned on the very first day of this race - which must seem like a lifetime ago - you never know how past decisions and circumstances may unfold. You're moving in the right direction and I suspect you'll move up soon enough. Keep up the great work and keep looking forward, that's where the new opportunities lie!

Sad to see you so disappointed, there was nothing lost, only a chance to gain. If you fight, go for couragous moves and take risks, you can win or lose. If you don't fight you lost already...
We are with you, love your reports and your tactics. One courageous move will work out, finally.
All the best from the other end of the world!

I remember sailing with my Dad, getting a break on the fleet then being gutted when they brought the breeze back to us. "He who tries hardest, longest, will do best" were the sage words he replied with, and we came back from 4th place. Plenty of overtaking lanes left in this race yet, South Atlantic being one of the biggest. Admire your approach to trying something different, keep trying! As they say, fortune favours the brave. 😊
