2 weeks ago i started to knit my first top. yesterday i really got frustrated because I made a mistake and had to open up quite a lot. And at the moment i watch a lot of knitting podcasts and these people work on so many projects and are so fast! in comparison i felt so bad, your words at the and of this video come at the right moment❤ thanks for the encouragement, i really enjoy your videos & messages!

These are great tips! And I love your attitude towards knitting, I have question about a tip I once heard someone say - they said if you're purely working in the round you can have the needle holding the stitches be a size smaller than the working needle to let the stitches glide over it faster + let you knit faster
I can see where the idea's coming from but would that affect tension?

After learning to knit in my teens then having 5 children and now I’m 61 and teaching myself how to knit again.
So, taking your advice not to pick up bad habits I’m watching your tutorials on continental knitting and I’m loving it. Slowly picking it up.😎finding it easier than the English method with my arthritis. And also keeping my brain working 😂
The way you explain things.. wonderful.!!

Thank you for sharing your knitting techniques. I love your video. You are so relaxed and easy going that it makes it so much easier to follow along. As others have said, you should write a book. It would be a huge success.

Current world record: 118 stitches a minute.
Me: takes at least 3 seconds to make 1 stitch.😅

If i speed my knitting or use the bunching more, etc, it sometimes changes my gauge slightly. For some projects small changes have huge impacts over time in the creation. I suggest choosing method desired and checking with a swatch before getting halfway through and finding the faster method has set the project up for a total restart.

Norman, i love your last tip: knitting is not a race! We run around like headless chicken in our daily life fast enough without having to rush knitting. I have been knitting a 1950's fair isle cardigan since beginning of october and i'm finishing it today but i also knit a chunky sweater from start to finish for my bf last week. There was no competition which one i enjoyed knitting the most... yep, the number 3.25 mm fair isle cardigan is the slow knitting olympics winner!

Do you have any tips for knitting in the round? I am knitting a sweater on circular bamboo needles (waiting on my metal needles), but I have to stop and move all the stitches from the right section to the left. I wonder is this is mainly as a result of me being a very tight knitter or if this always happens when knitting things in the round.

Thank you for sharing your tips! I think you are a very good teacher, and I appreciate your modesty when you mention you may not be a good teacher to teach certain things. What you are sharing , though, is very helpful! I find I am already doing a lot of the things you mentioned intuitively. However, I have been making my purl stitches wrong and they are what you call "twisted." Your videos helped me realize that. Now if I can only learn to convert in my brain patterns written for English or American knitting to the continental way I knit I will be ready to go! Tried once and the decorative dropped added loops came out on the wrong side of the work so I'm obviously doing something wrong 🤣 I will continue to diligently watch your videos!

I know you said you don't have to change your style of knitting - but I think I'm going to. I learned with the English style, but I'm a far more proficient crocheter than knitter. I think holding the yarn in the left hand and "hooking" with the right needle might produce better results for me and allow me to go faster as this is quite similar to how the yarn is held and hooked in crochet. Thank you for this very informative video :)

Late to the party commenting on this. But thanks Norman! I've recently begun taking my knitting to the next level, moving from being content with the odd scarf or hat to fair isle sweaters etc.
I already had a pretty solid continental technique, about 60 sts per minute. I've just started practising picking, and after an hour I'm as fast as I was with my earlier technique, but most interestingly, my stockinette is much neater, with a more consistent tension. I reckon that after a little more practice, my work will be much better quality after learning to pick, as well as quicker.
Find all your videos very encouraging indeed - vielen dank!
