For all he thinks he's not the Doctor anymore, he tries to pull an unknown teenage girl/woman out of what he presumes is harms warm without even thinking about how she's there.

I just realized something when he called it a weapon. The Moment might not be a bomb, but something much worse: a gun. You wouldn't build a consciousness for something that's a one use item.

I like the idea that this is the Moment, but that Bad Wolf's existence rippled out and affected the Moment, making her more Rose-like

One of the things that breaks my heart and is so truly conveyed by John Hurt is the tragedy of a being who has tried for so very long to do good and help others, brought to this moment of despair and hopelessness. He is The Doctor who thinks he's failed and desperately needs help and The Universe reached out to help him. All of his sacrifice and bearing the burden of being the Doctor is repaid a little when The Moment showed him the way. I love at the finale that he is the first to realize the answer and it passes to 10 and 11 as a memory. The War Doctor earned and deserved this victory.

I watched the season with Rose. I liked Rose. Never got back into it after she left. I guess I was a bigger fan of hers than I was of The Doctor.
