Original rheinischer Sauerbraten is made from horse meat and the sauce will contain raisins. The almonds don’t belong there though and I guess they just put it to a bit garnish.

A pork knuckle is never wrapped in bacon. It’s the natural fat coating of the knuckle.

Here in the United States we call it a ham bone and put it in lentil soup

I was in Koln this spring and had Schweinhaxe. Looks like the same restaurant. A deliscious dish, but possibly uses up lots of calories trying to get all the little pieces of meat. Gaffis my favorite beer. I buy it here and keep some in the fridge.

Bitte , keine Schweinhaxen mehr. Deutschland ist nicht Bayern und Schweishaxen mit Kraut. Wie wäre es mit was anderem, zB Döner, Gyros oder Pommes rot-weis?

Your Coca Cola and Orange pop, was called Swamp Water at my local A&W restaurant in the 1970's in Timmins Ontario Canada, I do this drink some times, btw I am a first gen Canadian German.

i am a 49 year old german and i had pork knuckle maybe 2 or 3 times in my whole life. it is not what you typically eat in germany ;)

Deana is correct about the potato pancakes. We grew up calling them potato latkes. They are very popular at Hanukkah, and every Jewish bubbe (grandmother) makes them. We would traditionally have them with apple sauce, but some people like sour cream as well. Those looked delicious, as did the pork knuckle

I love the Haxe , yuuummyyy!!!!!! I was in KÖLN last June 2022 and I loved the food in the very last restaurant :) I will visit there again :) !!!

Rievkoochebud in the Salzgasse is small but great.

Köln is really not the best place for a food tour, there food is not the best in Germany, their potato salad is terrible, and they don’t have beer as good as in Bayern.

ok is amazing to see that Balhausen is still the best bakery in town,, and left cologne almost 40 years ago.. but for the "Brauerei" bet i would recommend is Pfaffgen am Friesenwall, Which is more authentic than Gaffel am Dom..in any event, food is still good there.

Nice I just did a food tour on the east side of the country but def gotta check out köln next time!

Try the districts in Cologne, Früh am Chlodwigplatz, Wirtz in der Südstadt are worth a try as well ! Btter than the old town, thanks for the video !

I absolutely love German food, I tried himme und erde in cologne , pork shoulder in frankonia, laugen Stangen bread. Honesty the tastiest food I’ve ever eaten. Since cutting out meat and dairy I would have a hard time, although I’m sure there are some pretty decent vegetarian options ?

ähm..... I didnt´t see, if you put salt and pepper on the Mettbrötchen. You can´t eat it without doing this. Some people also put mustard on it instead.

I lived in Cologne in the late 90s. My favorite bakery is Bäckerei Zimmerman , near the Ring. Favorite German restaurant Paffgen, great schnitzel with Rotkohl.

Thick fries we call cottage fries in the US. My favorite food? Detroit-style pizza! (comes with 9mm bullet holes! ) LOLOL! The best Koelsch-style beer I had here is made by Leinenkugel's, from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. They even sell Koelsch glasses from their on-line store. German Koelsch beers are very difficult to find here.

If you want a real good authentic meal, go to a local brewery.

As a local from Cologne it's so cool to see "foreigners" enjoy our wonderful city.
