Congratulations on the cam challenge, from Massachusetts
ОтветитьGreat job Daniel, you are going to need another Grinder !!! How many grinders can you run at one time ?????
ОтветитьEven though the "variables" were "controlled" there are SO many that can contribute to the variation in HP/Trq numbers...you did well! Your refurbished shop looks great!
ОтветитьYou gotta stop with that 8th grade education crap. You are a self taught machinist that has more knowledge than many machinists/engine builders that have been doing for decades. Just because you left school in the 8th grade doesn't mean you didn't learn the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th academics. Give yourself a big pat on the back Daniel !
ОтветитьPlease do the cutaway head showing the valve events.
Thanks for everything
That’s very cool!!! Thanks for sharing this with all of us!
ОтветитьWas a cool deal. I love the fact all you guys wanted to see what did what. The funny part is that the header size is what made the decision in this game. Who knows what will be the outcome on the next one. Could be an odd value size maybe. But to be honest that is not much different in power and another motor could be different. This was cool. What would be really interesting is to see if the power is different in a different motor.
ОтветитьI’m with everyone else. You and all the competitors were great. My question as a spectator is would you like to try something similar on another make engine? Something else on an LS? It’d actually be interesting to see how they performed on the track.
ОтветитьGood job! Anything 5 hp and or 5 ft Lbs is beans when comparing all those cams as far as I'm concerned. Your average enthusiast can loose double that with their tune, not to mention their combination they can put together.
ОтветитьAll good 😀
ОтветитьWell done ! I was really surprised to see one cam run away it though . To get your cam in any top ten spot is bragging rights for a month , but you wont brag , it ain't your way . Best wishes to all of you .
ОтветитьGreat job!
ОтветитьNK was the one and only entrant that specifically optimized for the nonsense rules of the competition.
Most of the entrants provided something that would be much better in the real world, especially Brian Salter.
Powell #1 9th place
Powell #2 11th place
B&F engines 16th place (Powell ground)
I wish that there was a way to translate dyno data to track performance. All the nuances on the data curves into real world results would be cool to see.
ОтветитьMost if this could have been just a couple of degrees of temperature of the oil or coolant, just enough to give up or add a half a horsepower or so.
NK with that tight lsa and huge exhaust duration surprised the shit out of me. I wouldn't have expected the need for that much exhaust duration and overlap with a head like was used.
What was the lowest of all, not asking who. How much difference was it. I expect it to be s summit cam, just because those guys aren't cam guys.
congrats Sir,,,,,waiting for more
ОтветитьI think I heard Eric say one of the cams had LESS exhaust duration. After watching this video I have to guess that one must have been last place by a country mile. I can't imagine what engine less exhaust duration could actually be a good thing.
ОтветитьLs3 heads flowed 400 intake and 250 stock so he didnt bother port matching it
some caught it some didnt if the exaust was ported 70 thousandths dosent take a brain surgen
to figure out what goes in must come out .
the more the exaust port you open up the more of that 400 you will use .
I Port LT1 heads to 300 intake and 260 on intake 12 split on durations is balanced pretty well
LS1 had better exaust ports with better Balance of both ports .
just think it was the port and not headers Forced Induction would flow through those headers
the exaust port is half the header size and round ports look 1.250
my lt1 ports are 1.470 x 1.470
D shape lol I could be wrong but I doubt it
Every body did awdome
ОтветитьShop and BERCO looks great
You can't tell what the seat intake (or) exhaust durations are
I postulated over on SpeedTalk that Intake Close would predict Torque at 4000 and it did
At Engine Maters high torque at dyno load in is a predictor of high average torque and it does here
The 5 earliest intake (including DV) had higher numbers than the second 5 by around 10 ft lbs
now this is using .050 numbers which do not trust
The winner was not highest at 4000 but close, must be a great lobe or maybe the big exhaust does not help as much at 4k
Great comments I do not see that much overlap and exhaust on the street on pump gas, too much heat into the exhaust Just IMHO
Be cool if Eric made this a big annual event with a different motor every year.
ОтветитьNothing to be ashamed of, for sure. Everyone involved did a great job for a first time event. Keep on givener.
ОтветитьGood job on your cam in the challenge... 540 BBC is a serious deal, maybe that will be next challenge engine being everyone builds them....
ОтветитьYour differently going to grind my cam when I need it done
ОтветитьWhat a great learning experience. Thanks for the extensive research, Erick.
Ответитьlove eric, hes a good dude, lives down the road from me in broken arrow. hes a hard ass worker, havent met to many people with his work ethic.
ОтветитьIf you participated you're a man
ОтветитьThat was funny when you seen that young kid do that video hats off to him
ОтветитьNice work from you. Can you regrind Toyota 2jz cams?
ОтветитьIt gave you some great extra knowledge it's good to see a normal acting person in this world
ОтветитьIt'll make you even a better cam grinder congratulations man
ОтветитьWith a few horsepower difference I'd still go with Daniel. I'm biased?. Heck yeah!!!!. Way to go Daniel and Andrew.
ОтветитьI'm impressed but not surprised. A man With common sense. Grandpa would say Rare as hens teeth... Well Done
Ответитьassemble the cam, hydrulic lifter.pushrod, rocker, spring to be used, then put a gauge on the lifter, and one on the rocker and see how much the lifter moves before the rocker moves no oil pressure, then figure out how to drive the oil pump and check again,is that something interesting to do,or am i sucking on my girlfriends titty
Ответитьwell...u r 1 big hairy hillbilly for 8th grade...!..lmao...!..its hard to grind a cam 4 a motor u do NOT have a hand in build'n...& come out on top...!..a 2 or 3 hp differance....u will never fell that or see it on a time ticket...u got your head on stright...u learn..every day...!..& u will improve everyday...!..keep punch'n cows...& keep your chin up...well done Daniel....!
ОтветитьDaniel, congratulations on your finishes in the Cam Challenge YOU HAVE BALLS!!!!!!!!!! as Eric would say🤣🤣🤣 You ground a cam for me last spring for my 302 and it works beautifully. Always appreciate your content and all of the good info you share. You're a Gentleman and a true professional!!!!!! all the best
ОтветитьI'm running 1 3/4 headers on a LS swap. They were the only center dump block huggers I could find at the time.
Ответитьderp derp derp
ОтветитьHey Daniel,
Tim here.......I am IMPRESSED with ur placement....I mean SERIOUS HIGH $ dudes u were up against.....ur NO dummy.......but u've also worked ur ass off to get there......DILIGENCE is better than deep pockets!!!!......I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed this whole cam challenge.......yea, Eric is after a SBF next........watch out for Brent in that arena......he's quite the man!!.....anyhoo, I am proud of you, wear my t-shirts proudly, and may God bless you , as you move fwd with the shop, new grinder, etc......just LOVE IT brother.....PEACE to you sir!!
They said they did not change carb jetting or adjust timing in any of the tests. How can that be a valid test? Each cam has different timing and fuel needs, so the results will ONLY be valid for one cam.
I think it's great they did all that work, but the numbere cannot be trusted unless each motor is tuned for max power with each cam.
It was interesting to see the exhaust duration playing a big factor in the performance. I wonder why the LS engine likes that more than a SBC and BBC?
Congrats on your performance.
Realizing that every engine platform is different, do you think that the trend shown by the camshaft challenge shows that a restricted exhaust in other engines will like wider splits? In particular, BBC.
ОтветитьHey Daniel I have a question what’s your opinion on Howard hydrofit lifters sbf
ОтветитьI think if you examine the supplied data , it seemed obvious that with a big carb , and a well flowing single plane manifold and intake port, then the intake lobe would require a relatively small duration. Then compare that with the Exhaust port flow, along with the small 1 3/4 headers , that would need a much bigger lobe duration. Then to generate good Hp it would need plenty of overlap, thus a relatively small LCA was needed. If you look at the best cam it was close to having the smallest intake lobe, the biggest exhaust lobe and as some others did , an LCA at 108 but with a ton of split near 20*.
ОтветитьLove your channel. I'm planning an LS build for my first engine build and have been binge watching you and trying to soak it all up. I'm not terribly far from you in GA, so i love seeing a southern channel instead of all the california guys.
Just wanted to say your humbleness is so refreshing and endearing. Keep it up!
thats it man, header variable. he did a video on just porting out exhaust port and it increased 17-22hp more. just exhaust port porting
ОтветитьDid anyone see which cam may be better for a 1 ton truck? 412cid ls
ОтветитьThis guy fixed a nitrous cam for me several years ago. Still have the cam card he gave me. Has a lot of data on it that most companies don’t give. Good guy
ОтветитьSo I'm just a tech, but to me it seems, you wan't the intake to follow the piston, but all the magic happens on the exhaust valve.
