I am 100% on your side - not worth the risk for that kind of money! I'm so used to making bias tape by hand that it's no biggie at all. Thank you for sharing this review. It's the first review I've seen. I had been wondering if this machine would be something nice to have. Nope! I would much rather have more fabric and patterns and simple tools for sewing. Thanks, Grace! P.S. I love the makes you showed, as always! I may have missed this detail, but what kind of fabric did you use on each of your top versions? Looks drapey, like rayon jersey?
ОтветитьHello, I am a new subscriber and I just love your channel. The tops you made are so cute and so are the bags. I can't blame you for not taking a chance on the bias tape maker but the manual set you got is very nice.
ОтветитьThank you for trying out this hyped up, over-priced gadget. I honestly don't think it matters from where you buy it if it is the same product. I also would return it asap.
ОтветитьVERY helpful review, Grace! Thank you!!! Not that I would spend that kind of money on a mechanical bias tape maker, but it confirms that Singer brand small mechanical gadgets aren't very well made and/or don't last very long. At one time I had thought about getting a Singer bobbin winder until I read the reviews. Their vintage sewing machines are really good (I have 3 Featherweights), but their modern gadgets just don't compare at all. Singer's reputation went downhill when they started mass producing plastic, cheaply made machines. Too bad. BTW: Love your New Look 6940 tops!
ОтветитьTotally off topic but your finger nails look lovely.
ОтветитьDisappointing but happy you have the kit and individual pieces a a good option Grace! I make them all the time for my projects. Happy sewing and I love your puppy.
ОтветитьThanks for the review! I totally agree, not worth it for that price. It's pretty easy to make bias tape with the kit.
ОтветитьThat was a very helpful review! I was actually thinking about getting one until I saw this and now I realize simpler is better. Really, after fiddling with rolling and feeding, etc. I wonder how much time you are even saving. Thank you!
ОтветитьAbsolutely brilliant review! I haven't ever considered buying one but I certainly won't put it on a gift list now either. I have the same kit as you but I must admit I don't always use it, I tend to eyeball it most of the time. If I was doing lovely bags etc like you then I would certainly use it more often.
That's it, I need to make another of those T-shirts as so went through my wardrobe and I've gotten rid of them 😮. They look fabulous on you. Thanks for the review, you've saved us all £100's! ❤
Too cool 😎 👌
ОтветитьI’ve been using the bias tape makers in various sizes for years. Love them. Thanks for the review though. I get excited and want to try a new gadgets all the time, electrical or not. Same with hair devices. Valoom , flat irons, etc!
ОтветитьBummer! I am so sorry that the Bias Tape Maker didn't' work properly! I was really rooting for it. I totally agree, though, that it's better to return it now while you can get the money back than later on down the road. I love the Madame Sews maker kit, and might be picking that up soon! Again, I'm really sorry for the disappointment. 😥
ОтветитьThanks for the great review. That’s such a shame and it would definitely not be worth another try. Love the top you are wearing, it sounds like its a TNT.
ОтветитьThank you for this review. I love gadgets and this Bias Tape Maker had been on my wish list. You have saved me much trouble.
ОтветитьGlad someone was the guinea pig with this thing because I’m definitely not worth the money!
ОтветитьSo glad you showed this and I too wanted to purchase this so glad you actually showed us,proudly back in the day when this first came out it probably did work today things are not made the same. I was so excited to see this …..what a bummer🙁I did want one too…thank you for sharing! Looking foward to your next video😊
ОтветитьThank you for the review, I had thought about buying one but not now!
ОтветитьThanks for the demonstration Grace. I don't think it's worth it either
ОтветитьI’m sorry it didn’t work for you, perhaps it was the fabric. I have one and it has never skipped a beat, I love it. Crazy hey!
ОтветитьI bought mine from simplicity. It didn't work at all. Kinda hard to return, nothing like the ease of Amazon. They agreed that the heating element was broken but did not offer to exchange. They gave me a refund and told me to repurchase it. I don't need it that bad. I will NOT make another purchase from them.
ОтветитьYou are loading the roll on the wrong side. That may be why your bias tape is not folding right. I got one, read the directions practiced on it an afternoon. Works great. I'm using jersey knit and an interlock. I got my Simplicity machine brand new at the thrift store. $6.still had the plastic on the plug and cardboard cover on the heat plate. A little pratice made a big difference.
ОтветитьWas the READY light green? Did not appear to be. I've seen others wait a few until the green Ready light came on.
ОтветитьI have one and like it. I had to make yards and yards of bunting for my daughter’s wedding, and this gadget helped enormously. You rolled the fabric on to the roller the wrong way.
ОтветитьOh wow.
Ответитьthis was an Unfortunate review because the operator didn’t fold the fabric before putting through the hot place. And, this step should had been done with the hot plate cold, so to not burn yourself.
ОтветитьI have one I bought many of years ago. I’ve never had a problem out of it. I think you got a bad one but the results worked out for your good in the end overall … I also own a set of those manual ones too by another buyer … FIESTA 🪅
Ответитьwhen you are lifting the heat plate, it has to stay folded as you are putting the top back on, it seems to be coming unfolded before you put the top on the heat plate
ОтветитьNow you're scaring me. I just bought in online from Simplicity. It normally sells for $230 but got it for $75. I saw this from my Sewing Instructor. She was helping one of the students with her quilt bias tape.
ОтветитьI have one and I love it. Are you sure your fabric was twice the size of the width of your tip? If you are using a 1" then you strip needs to be 2" wide. I even fold the bias tape over and run it through again so it is ready to be sewn on.
ОтветитьIt didnt seem you waited for the ‘ready’ light to turn red!
ОтветитьThank you for posting this review. I was excited by this product but wondered if it was really worth it. I think we now all know the answer is NOOO! You just saved me a lot of money. I appreciate a couple of people pointed out a few user errors but I can still see this product is a white elephant.
Nice job on the bag/wallet too.
I purchased this machine from Simplicity. It came with the 1-1/4 adapter bent. I called them. They are sending replacement. The only thing is they don’t make that size anymore.
ОтветитьI have one of these machines for 10 years. Occasionally I take it out to use it with the hope that one day it would work. But I never does. This machine does not work for most fabrics. It is a waste of money and time
ОтветитьThe fabric strip was to narrow for that tip?
ОтветитьWow!!! That was painful to watch! I have this machine and use it all the time. You didnt wait for the green light to light up that says "ready". You also loaded ur fabric to the opposite side of the winding spindle and the guide bar looked like it was bent and not in position properly.
Wait for the green light to turn on and it makes bias binding a breeze!!!
The ready light comes on fairly quickly. It went out while you were sewing the strips together. The safety device was activated and stopped it overheating! Nothing wrong. You probably didn’t read the instructions first.
ОтветитьThanks for saving me $230 because that’s how much it is now
ОтветитьThe big white rectangular part on the left swings up - and you pull your folded fabric thru that, thru the heating rollers, and then put it down to hold the fabric in place. You are skipping that part of the initial feed.
ОтветитьYou’re removing the fold when you close the iron cover. Try keeping it folded when you pull the fabric from the tip, then close the iron cover. If you flatten the fabric before you close the cover, the machine can’t refold it after the fabric goes through the iron.
ОтветитьI've got this Simplicity machine and have had absolutely no problem with it. 5/13/24. Bought it on sale at JoAnns years ago
ОтветитьThree days ago I bought one for $50 from a seller on Facebook Marketplace. It has been barely used. It works like a charm. Last year, off eBay I got a Simplicity bias strip cutting machine that was almost in brand-new condition. It was CDN$65. I ended up receiving a full refund including the shipping cost as one little piece was missing. 🫤 The seller didn't want to pay the return shipping cost. My husband was able to create/replace the missing piece. It is an absolute time saver. Now I'm going to keep my eye open for the bias tape winder machine. I made simple dust covers for the two machines. I believe that if anything is going to wear down these mechanical gadgets it's going to be dust/lint and too much moving them around. I make sure to keep them in their spot, brush and blow (with aerosol dust remover) away dust/lint. Look after your things and they will look after you. I'm hoping that by the time these machines are on their last legs, another company will have its versions on the market. 🤞All things meet their end and some point in time and unfortunately, in this day and age, there are fewer repair service businesses than in yesteryears.
ОтветитьGoof day from South Africa
I bought the previous simplicity baisbinding maker . My small gears inside is worn out. I use to be a agents for many years. I there a way I can purchase that gears to fix my machines I make thousands mt thousands and thousands mt of bais. O 1 could ever make me gears with the a 3d printer. IVE got 4 machine 2 had a factory fault so I could never use it. The gears was faulty could not run in each other Kind regards Mariette Rosslind
I think you need to go back and read/watch the simplicity vids, you are doing things backwards. Maybe try again.
ОтветитьNice top! Looks great!
ОтветитьYou have not lined up the fabric correctly, not did you wait for the heat to be ready.
