(5,1) How to Install macOS 10.14 Mojave WITHOUT Metal GPU - Mac Pro Series S.3 EP.7

The reason it says metal supported in 10.13 is because mac had metal support in High sierra also. MacOS 10.13 had "metal support" it just wasn't "only" metal like 10.14 and later, 10.13 was a hybrid of metal and openGL. My issue is, with newer macos, it seems as if the patch older cards doesnt really work with games but those same games worked perfectly fine in 10.13 and they work perfectly fine in 10.14 with a newer gpu's. That basically shows that its not an issue of it having no opengl as when the game was in 10.13, it had everything it needed and the newer card in 10.14 with same game, same game version also had everything it needed.

That's not true as higher end Macbooks did come with a mobile 560 and that was a true mac fermi card. also the 610 was fermi based. See macs didnt truely support the desktop variant of some of those cards but the 530m,560m,580m were supported as the laptop variant was most certainly supported.

what would be the best graphics cards for a mac pro 3,1 that is metal supported. and how do i tell if a graphics card is metal supported?

HI, my name is Ivan. I have a 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 with MacOS high Sierra and just made a bootable disk of mojave I created it with disk creator app. I tried booting with option key held down as I click on the power button but it doesn't go to the disk screen so I can choose the mojave installer. so I shut the computer back down and rebooted normal and when it booted up to my desktop. I opened system preferences and clicked on the start up disk tab and it only shows my Mac disk and not the installer disk. What can I do in this situation? and also could this be because Im running a newer graphics with metal support?

Thanks for the video! Question: I have 5.1 Mac Pro with two GPU (unflashed Nvidia GTX970 and Mac original GT 120 for reboots and updates). When I am​ trying to install Mojave installer see unsupported GT 120 and saying that installation is not permitted. I can take this card out, but what I will do at reboots and updates? This is my main working machine, and I'm afraid to do something stupid that not allow me to go back. Please advise.

Since it works with a gt 5xx will it also work with a 4xx GPU? I ask because these cards have the same core.

Hi Greg , You say macOS Mojave must run in APFS? I'm currently running HFS+ on my 5,1 with a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (Boot) in macOS High Sierra prior to HFS+ I was running APFS in High Sierra and my boot screen was filled with verbose text. This occured prior to the "Apple" logo, at which point the text disappears so I reverted back to HFS+ . Just wondering if this issue has been fixed in Mojave for non Apple SSD's ? Otherwise we may have to raise the issue in our MacProUpgrade FB group as nearly everyone I know is using HFS+ .
