this is the worst way to deploy a laravel app on cpanel, In that way you will expose .env together with the entire website files and folder, You need to move all these files outside public_html folder.

SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] No such file or directory

But use that way will let any one to get to your app folder or config,
I think you need to move all the project files step back and in the content in the public folder move to past directory
