Makes you want to stay working a spinner reel instead, doesn't it? Less chance on getting all caught up and tangled.

I appreciate you mentioned the "push and twist" method even if you don't personally use it, because as someone just getting back into the sport I've been watching many other videos and they don't explain the downsides that can come from this...

I’ve always used my pocket comb to pull up the loops, a lot easier than trying to grab with fingers.

I HATE a backlash in flouro worse than anything. If it’s a bad one it will basically ruin the line because it gets a bunch of kinks and it’s so expensive it’s basically throwing money away. Braid is easy to clear and mono is pretty good but it’s also good because it’s cheap

I've been using Baitcasters for about 15 years , getting countless birds nests over the years , mostly from incorrect technique when I cast . Prior to yesterday the longest I'd ever taken to get one out was about 15 minutes . Until yesterday . The tide was low on the river so top water lures were harder to get into the spots I sought without getting hung up on logs that were normally under water . On a particular cast for some reason I whipped the rod after it finished its forward motion , creating a massive backlash . I've had bigger but this particular one had no rhyme or reason and I couldn't find any way to loosen things up . For every "v" there was an opposite "v" no matter what I tried . I got it about 1/2 out when my thumbs finally began to cramp up after a little over an hour and a half and for the first time ever (and hopefully the last ) I had to cut the line in the spool . As I said it did it long before the lure reached it's intended target to the sudden stop was only about 10 yards out . I only lost about 15 yards of line , including what I had to cut out on the spool to clear out the birds nest . It was 20 pound Power Pro braid on that Lews Tournament reel .
The tide was well on its way back in by the time I got back to casting and I never got anymore birds nests yesterday .
I've got 5 kids and 4 grandkids so undoing knots of every kind is pretty much a daily necessity . Just be in no hurry and keep your reading glasses handy and in no time you'll be done with whatever knot up you come across .

Really great video. Really appreciate how you show a close up view of how the loops on the reel is catching and preventing the line from pulling out. Makes it easier to understand what's causing the problem instead of only seeing a mess of intersecting lines.

Preventive maintenance is best.
Learn to set your drag etc. So it doesn't tangle.

After my first two bait caster backlash episodes I thought that bait casters were designed by the fishing line companies so you have to keep buying new line. BTW, the method shown on the video worked up to a point. I was very patient, did not pull tight and kept pulling out the line that was overlapped. What they don't tell you is that as you pull your line off the reel it makes the rest of the nest worse and worse. I had to cut off the hook, take the reel of the rod and cut out half the line. Found out after the reason why it was so bad. Your new Kastking reel comes with the line tension on full but the brake on zero. No instructions and there are two lines on the brake wheel. It looks like the brake is on full, just like the line tension. So my first casts where with the brake on zero. Turning up the brake works! But Kastking, can you simply either have only one line pointing to the brake settings ? Or maybe an arrow ? Paint mark ? Something to show which line is pointing at the setting ?

I usually put pressure with my thumb nail and reel in a little (with the backlash) then gently pull it all out. I’ve never had to pick at the line, works every time.

I just give another fisherman a beer to untangle it for me. However they do it, it looks much easier than this. They simply pull a lot of the line out, then wind it back in.

When I got a new baitcaster and was first learning it the person who helped me pick out a good reel & rod told me to use a larger diameter line like 50LB braided cause itll help with taking line out and just go down to smaller line whenever you get better at removing birdnests

66 yrs old and bought my first baitcasting reel. So far I've "attacked" my backlash twice, with my pocket knife. I'm going to buy my third spool of braid, and haven't even caught one fish. This baitcasting is bullshit. I'm about ready to sell the whole damn thing and go back to spinning gear.
