Saying communism is the reason Cuba is held back is so idiotic when you've seen what happens to every capitalist country in central America, south America, or the Caribbean. Cuba currently has higher life expectancy then the U.S. (77.57/77.28) compared to Haiti (64.05), the Dominican Republic (72.89), El Salvador (71.06), and Guatemala (71.80) it is doing substantially better than its capitalist neighbors. Considering the alternative was a U.S. funded fascist co-op I'd say anyone sane should acknowledge communism was the better path for the Cuban people.

Visited Cuba for 2 days with my family in 2018. We had a great time. The people, food and local culture were amazing. We thru local street markets in Havana and even took a tour of the city in the 50s cab. It sucks how the US has isolated the country for decades.

Cuba could be a fantastic country to live in, but there's too many Blacks and half - breeds, which led to bigger poverty, add Communism to that, and the flight of the decent hardworking White Cubans. Perfect recipe for a failed state.

Just so you know- it’s very common for folks in Havana to stop Americans on the street & strike up a conversation then take them to a restaurant. Not a scam per se but they’re likely getting a kick back from the restaurant (and a free drink from you!)
