How to make a half ass carbine good. Swap to microbest bcg, adjust gas system, get a nice handguard with a solid lockup and torque everything to spec.

Microbest BCG, BA/Faxon Barrel, whatever forced receivers you can get ahold of for cheap, Sig Romeo 5, and be done with it.

I feel it. A customer at the barbershop told me about the rifle he has and really talked it up. This would be my first AR-15 to get.

When I did my research on the rifle in question and other brands, learning about ARs and attachments needed / recommended, I pulled the trigger.

I bought it in April 2023:

I freakin love it! I was definitely going the mid-tier / A or B tier route. (Do people consider Springfield Armory A-tier or B-tier?)

I knew and know I don't wanna go the Daniel Defense route (S-tier) but that would be my upgrade were I to get another rifle. (I don't intend to)

I can't recommend any other rifle than the Saint Victor as your first!

On that first rifle, what kind of magwell was that?

Gonna have to disagree on the streamlight comment. Both of mine are new and have tapeswitch/tailcap flickering issues. Tapeswitch on my brand new hlx pro is practically dead in the water, and the tailcap that i WAS a fan of is now flickering upon activation. Also, bear in mind, any amount of shock immediately kills the tapeswitch, whether charging the bolt or even dropping the hammer on an empty chamber.

When $50 of that is just a magwell I mean I can’t say that it’s a good comparison to what’s actually out there

Unfortunately you are right economy is terrible. I’m a father with a stay at home mom. I have a decent job and pay my bills but extras are just near impossible. Hoping to be able to afford an ar soon!

I'd say the best budget AR15 build is:
-PSA AR15 with a freefloat handguard($480-550 depending on deal and preference)
-Sig Romeo5 ($100on sale)
-Olight Odin Mini($135) you can quickly pull it off the rifle and use it as a handlight.
-a cheap amazon 2 point sling($7)/2 point quick adjust sling($15)
-UTG flip up sights.(~$50)

This setup, should come out at around what the Zion costs alone.

I have expensive rifles, slings, optics, lights and accessories. The cheap stuff mentioned above has preformed just as well, and has been abused since it's cheap stuff on a cheap rifle I got to use and abuse.

I'm not saying an IWI Zion is bad. It's an amazing rifle, and I love mine. All I am saying is if PSA was just churning out junk they wouldn't have gotten as big as they are. They don't have the PR team Sig does.

I'm just confused about your backup irons--how would you use those on the same rail as your red dot when it appears the height-over-bore of the red dot is blocking the sight radius between the front and back sights? I have an LPVO on my AR-15 and in order to use my irons I bought two 45-degree off-set plates.

I have started running olight flashlights on my rifles and so far I love them and the prices are still good!!

Aside from some companies offering premium parts or proprietary paint jobs there really isn't a huge difference between the budget and expensive stuff. Anybody that has work in aerospace machine shops understand a few companies "oem"ing for other companies . (Budget companies punching out upper tier companies guns and parts) stock materials coming from the same places, cut on the same machines, going through the same quality department using the same mics, calipers, pin guages, cmm machines... point being, most budget stuff is way better than people give it credit for and most tier 1 stuff isn't as much better than the budget stuff as the people who spend money on it want to think it is. Even a sharpened stick will work long enough to get something better.

I went the Sabre route with my AR pistol. Definitely worth it and didn’t have to swap out anything.

IWI Zion is hands down the best rifle for the money out there. It's also Maryland legal which is a huge plus and they are made right here in PA.

Love your approach but something I don’t think gets talked about enough is looking for BLEM discounts. I’m running a Sabre lower with a geislee trigger already installed and a BCM 16” upper (who is giving away BCM bcgs and charging handles). Both upper and lower were “BLEM” which I can’t find on either and cost me $1100 instead of $1800 plus non blemished. I then went on palmettos deal of the day and got a vortex strikefire 2 with 10 pmags for $200 which saved me about $200 more.

Would love to see you build a high quality blemished or deal gun and show that with some searching and patience you can get some great parts together

Seeing the comments makes me feel like being in another universe in EU. Hearing people talk about their guns is so weird.

More guntubers should really talk about fsb’s when dealing with budget builds. I get everybody wants to be an operator and have a cool looking rail. But on budget rifles you don’t need all that rail space. A decent drop in handguard (like b5) will hold lights and vertical grips fine. They’re also more reliable. Most budget low profile gas blocks aren’t on a dimpled barrel. Obviously you can do that yourself, but a fsb comes out of the box pinned. And lastly, you can buy a simple rear iron sight and be ready to go if you don’t want to/have the money to spend on an optic right away.

Holosun 403R is the best RDS for $150

Just got my first AR. PSA Sabre with all the goodies for the most part ya would upgrade anyways for 930$ then I got optic, sling, light, etc… and all in probably 1500$ or so and it’s a damn fine rifle. I’d recommend to anyone honestly.

Thanks for this video it helped me on my many budget builds now its like a hobby of mine to get more budget build guns do a $499 start and upgrade to make it a solid gun

Only issue with Sabre upper is you have to have a spevial tool to remove the hand guard.

I'm pretty sure the majority of us builders are builders because we went a little cheaper the first go around and we slowly buy nicer parts until we can build a nicer gun.

Wish I could support all of the channels I watch, but here's an algorithm offering for now. Also, keep the cheap stuff and that would be a great gift for the kids when they're old enough.

I just put an hlx on my rifle. The only downside to this streamlight, is now I have to figure out how to resolve it flickering under recoil. I did a bunch of research on which model streamlight to buy and not once did anyone mention the flickering. I get the light, mount it, it flickers, and when I look that up, I find it's fairly common with these lights.

5 years ago a $1400 gun with the same specs wouldn't have been considered a budget gun so don't get caught up in the hype. Most of the budget guns today offer the same quality of a gun that was considered high-end 5 years ago

honestly what I would like to see is someone take budget parts and run them side by side with expensive parts or the (buy once cry once part) such as a budget BCG and an expensive BCG, and run them side by side and show the difference in function, reliability and durability of each BCG (not the aesthetics of it)

Personally I like B5 systems better than Magpul. That DWX in the background is sexy!

What tape is used to old the wire down for the light on the hand rail?

Vortex/spiral/helix flash hider? With suppressor mount? Best stocks besides B5/Magpul/BCM that you have or haven’t tried? (Fab defense, DoubleStar, RMR and offset iron sight combo? Best Grips and what to for for? (Materials, angles) the best slings, the best extended charging handle latch, the best M1913 rail cover (ladder, panels).

There are thousands of different things, maybe just testing it out and getting to ur hands on one at a gun show or store.

These guns aren’t complicated.
Smith & Wesson M&P’s are the most sold AR’s. Microbest makes the BCG’s which is what is in BCM rifles..
they can be found in good shape as LEO trade ins for CHEAP.

I also heard the psa saber not only has a better bcg but also has a better barrel I think FN which are two of the most important high end parts to have on your rifle and pretty much the heart of your rifle

Streamlight needs to go back down, for the same price you can get a smaller better arisaka defense
