The Best Home Defense Pistol: 9mm vs .45 ACP

Here in NJ we are limited to 10 rounds so chalk that up to the 45 column. I also don't want over penetration since it's a heavily populated state, so it's 45 for me.

i have both 45s and 9mms love all of them but my home protection is my Remington 870 loaded with bird shot and for those of you that say bird shot is crazy to use as defense my buddy got shot with one i really miss him

Got 45 ACP and 9MM for home defense that carries both hollow point slugs. We just systematically stow the pistols where we can easily access and defend the household. Great vlog though. Thanks!

.45 Hollow Point just because you are less likely to get up from those.

Love both BUT I keep a Taurus Judge in arms reach when I'm at home with buckshot. My EDC is a gen 5 Glock 19 with 30rd extendo.
Also good gun for home defense in the shockwave!

Personally my sweet spot is 40-45 consistent and comfortable… 9mm and smaller just don’t have the grip or comfort for me personally. But as a cc i can see how a 9mm has an up side.

The Glock 19 is very easy to manage with no safety, high capacity and lower recoil. And that is why I carry a 1911.

I'm 7 feet 3 inches tall and my daily CCW is a desert eagle in 50 AE. I wish the grips were a little bigger as well

.45ACP is subsonic so its a good suppressor platform and still retain kinetic energy even without hollow-points.

I just wonder why everyone uses .45’s 230 grain ammo for these UNFAIR comparisons instead of 185 or 200 grain??? .45 would prove SUPERIOR to the 9mm if done fairly.

I go with my Springfield 1911 45acp

At home I’m good with using 45 but if I’m on the run. I don’t want to carry 1000 rounds of 45 and slinging 1000 rounds of 9mm is a breeze compared. I do love shooting 45

Let's be honest here, 9mm is not an exceptional caliber in any way. There are hundreds of videos of cops emptying their guns on criminals and they still keep moving and even shooting back. There is this "cult" that defends that 9mm is the best thing in the world for self-defense and this and that, but this is all a lie, and it is not a matter of personal taste but of science! Just making that clear in case there's anyone who doesn't already know that.

Is it possible to load a 380acp projectile into a 9x21 case and then, increase the pressure to the medium difference of the 9mm Para Bellum and 9mm Major, so that's 9x21 with 380 projectile loaded to the medium pressure difference between 9mm PB/ 9mm Major, now that that's a 380 on steroids, technically that firearm can't be called a weapon of war because that combination isn't being used by any Military 🪖

Here in CA you ca nt have more than 10 rds in a mag so really its just what you prefer, if own a p226, glock 17, 19 , and a 1911 i regularly cycle through as my ccw

I think this is the better question to the 45 v 9mm debate; you have ONE bullet in a full size pistol to use in a defensive situation (say 4 to 5" barrel) which do you want?

My preferred home defense weapon is a Ruger GP100 in 357 Magnum loaded with Hornady 125 grain critical defense rounds.

To the peach fuzzed numb nut on the right (who clearly just prefers a 9mm) you can at least get your facts right. The 9mm came out before the 45acp

9mm is superior for combat,designed for wars.
Thats why most countries militaries adopted it
And FBI went back to 9mm.
They missed the advantages of 9mm
While they were shooting 40 cal.
9mm perfect round for pistols and submachine guns.
Shot place is important for any calibers.
Easier to do it with 9mm.

I love both, but I prefer 9mm. Being a smaller guy, I can shoot more accurately and comfortably with my 9mm.

For concealed carry, 9mm is king as it can fit more rounds into a smaller pistol. For home defense, .45 is better. You don't know what target you are up against, if they are on drugs, or if they have a large body mass of muscle or fat. The fact that they are breaking into your home is already scary enough, and I wouldn't want to take any chances if I only get the opportunity to fire a couple rounds if they decide to rush me or fire back.

Just have multiples of both. Problem solved. Problem staying solved.
