SDPC shares information learned about the process for churches to apply for the Payroll Protection Loans under the new Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Last week CARES passed through congress and became law. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to 501-C3's non-profits and small businesses under 500 employees. This intentionally includes churches. The goal is to keep money in bank accounts of the organizations and their employees.

Within the Act is a specific provision called the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) which provides funding for 2.5 months of an organization's average monthly payroll (full-time and part-time), including benefits, as a forgivable loan, so long as the org workforce remains the same in 2020 as it was in 2019.

Even though there is $350B provided, this only represents 36% of the organizations and churches who actually need access for this, which means we need to act quickly to take advantage of this. 64% will not get access to this funding the first time around.

The information presented in this meeting is time-sensitive and crucial. Local banks will start receiving the applications on Friday, April 3rd.
