When Maisie Williams was asked which fellow cast member she respects the most she said it was Charles Dance. Apparently she was very nervous about their scenes and- even though he didn't have to- he took the time to sit her down, soothe her and have a very encouraging talk with her. You can tell they loved working with each other, it's great to see mutual appreciation :)

His scenes with her were spectacular. Those were the types of scenes that made the show for me. Not the fighting or the dragons or the political drama. Those were good. But it was the character scenes that set it apart. Cersei/Robert in Season 1. Jaime/Tyrion in Season 4 talking about beetles. Arya/Tywin in Season 2 in the dining hall.

Those two characters could have ruled the 7 kingdoms together. Too bad you can’t choose your children I guess.

Love him in Game of Thrones, he was an excellent character! But I will always be a massive Last Action Hero fan!

Charles Dance just seems like the most lovely person in the world that I really, really wouldn't want to piss off. Apparently the entire cast agreed that him and Dinklage were most like their characters, which really seemed to annoy Dinklage especially, but it's definitely true.

The vibe I got from those scenes was Tywin playing it as 'I have a suspicion of who she is, but interacting with the kid is the most fun I've had in years, plus I actually kinda like her on a personal level and wish I'd got a more offspring like her at my disposal. Instead of my legacy coming down to a pretty, vindictive, idiot, a pretty, headstrong, idiot, or an ugly idiot who is smart but who I can't proudly parade around to the other lords due to dwarfism and hangups as to how he came into the world.'
One of the best and worst features about Tywin in the show was his drive to mould his younger relatives into shapes useful to him and his family, but he as a fairly old man realised he started the process way, way too late for it to take root with his own, and is now trying to mould / educate any high born youngling whos showing so much as a flicker of potential around him.

The whole Harrenhall scenes between Arya and Tywin actually humanized Tywin. We got to see his not a purely evil man, just to be evil. That’s the thing about well written villains, they think what they are doing is right.

I do like the way he phrased that.
The audience is saying to the little girl "Don't kill him yet. There is something strange going on and we are gonna find out a bit more."
It's 100% accurate but it's still funny the idea that an unseen observer wants her to not fulfill her mission of justified vengeance because the would-be victim has a secret she doesn't need but we want know.

Tywin's ancestor, Lann the Clever was a fox who won fame and fortune by convincing the world he was a lion. Tywin used to be like Lann, once. He just forgot that he was only a fox pretending to be a lion.

That man is magnificent. How he handled Joffrey, offering to carry him up the tower steps to attend the Small Counsel. More gently manipulating little Tommen when it was his turn. One of my favorites was his Tulkinghorn in Bleak House: The candid reveal to Lady Deadlock of what he knows and how he would use his information if she 'put so much as a toe out of line.' There was no gloating. No celebrating his painstaking victory. Simply the snake pointing out that he was entirely wrapped around his meal and her situation was - truly - Deadlocked. He's a marvel.

Giving Arya scenes with Tywin is one of the few decent additions D&D made to GRR's work.

It's still way too convenient to work well in the books, but being able to see those two actors in particular together was great, great chemistry between them.
