Our child goes to a great public school. However, we are firm believers that a significant amount of teaching and education occurs outside of the walls of schools (i.e. public or private).

Important note and not trying to be rude just legitimate advice as someone who saw this make sure that you aren't spending so much money on private school that it significantly affects the colleges you can afford for your kid to go to be fair in the situation I see the parents also spent money keeping uo the typical private school parent lifestyle but the tuition was definently not cheap and they definently get financial aid

The biggest thing for me were class sizes…as a public school educator myself I know that class sizes can get ridiculous and there’s no cap in my state…that was the deciding factor for me and the sacrifice is well worth it!

My next option is to possibly sell my car and get a cheaper one I am trying to get my child into private school but the extra three $400 is something I can't afford I'm trying to see if I can get a scholarship if my child can no longer go to this good Public School in the neighborhood.

I need help. My parents don't like the public school I go to (neither do I) and they want me to switch to a private high school. I am not exactly rich nor poor, more like middle class, but as a child I was always raised to think about money and how to spend it wisely. I told them there is a lot more important things we can use the $20,000 on (the tuition for the high school, ik, absurd) and how would we even afford it each year. They insisted that they can cut back some things and with financial aid we may be able to afford it. Im not sure if I should go to this private school, I really love the campus, the teachers and all but the only thing that is holding me back from saying yes is the cost of it. How can I make sure that I don't make my family just completely poor with the tuition. Also I really love the vid and the personality.

Really love this  video. As a teacher with experience in private and public schools both here in America and in England, money is not often the main reason why many parents choose either private or public school. It is mostly a matter of what value is placed on their child's education and therefore priority.

My children have been going to private school since pre-school (now 7th and 8th grade). It's not even an option for me to have them attend public school because they are getting a much better education and more one-on-one attention. Not to mention the values and morals taught. We've paid well over $100,000 thus far and I would do it again in a heartbeat (of course looking forward to graduation and buying myself a new car :) )

I went to a Catholic private school and public school starting in 5th grade. I must say I did better in public school and also had better teachers. My kids went to a daycare that began teaching at an early age and my daughter had great teachers and is well beyond her age in academics (1st grade currently), however the school had teacher changes and my son's teacher was not so good and he didn't excel as my daughter. I took him out of the school and he's now in public school as well as my daughter and they are both doing great. With any school (private or public), I think it depends on the school itself and the teachers.

Please consider sending your kids to public school for high school! I'm currently graduating from a small, (14 people in my grade and 306 students from age 2 to 12th grade) episcopal private school and because my school is so small, we don't rank. I have a 4.31 gpa and a 32 ACT score but it's harder for me to go to a a top in state college than someone who has a 2.0 gpa and terrible test scores because they're in the top 10% of they're class and get automatic admission. I'm applying to colleges and honestly wish my parents would have transferred to a public school

My husband went to private school for his entire education. My sister also went to private school for her high school education. Did they receive good educations? Yes! Were they treated poorly by their peers and (for my husband) teachers? Yes! Our child will be homeschooled because as a former public school teacher, I can't imagine sending my children to those schools and I don't see private schools as offering much. But if anyone feels their children benefit from private school then that's all that matters.

Mom of 5 here and my oldest was in private school from age 2 through 7.  We decided to homeschool and have been doing it ever since (she is now in the 8th grade).  Home education requires a significant sacrifice as I left corporate America and am now home with the kids.  To us a faith based, interest led education is important. Not to mention the time we get to spend with our children.

Sacrificing for private school at this age is no problem. Once they hit middle school and high school, private schools easily run over 25,000, usually closer to 35k a year!

Our girls are 5 and 3 as well! Our oldest has been in montessori for 3 years now. It has been a sacrifice for us, but well worth it. Our youngest will start this year and we will be paying quite a bit for both of them.

We did however buy a house in a very good school district, which I researched. We plan on moving them to public in first or second grade. Do you plan on putting your girls in public after kindergarten?

Great video!

Both oh my kids go to a private institution (kinder & 6th). When my oldest was going to kinder we decided to try public (he did pre-k in private). The class had like 30 students, the teacher would tell me everyday how terrible my child was on behavior and school work, and even tried to convince me that he had ADHD!!!😡 My child is the most calm and attentive person I've ever met!! He also would only count to the number 31, so during a parent teacher conference she mentioned this and proceeded to tell me that she tested her son (who was the same age) to count as far as he could and when he got to 100 she was so relieved that he could go pass 31!!! I've never wanted to physically harm someone more in my life.
We switched to private and have never looked back. In his 7 years there i have never had one teacher bring up anything about his behavior or learning abilities! So every time that payment is automatically withdrawn I am so thankful that we are able to afford it and not subject him to the monstrosity of public school.

After Kindergarten, will you be putting your kids in public schools? I attended Catholic schools from K-senior year high school. Honestly, the education was not great. My sister and I did well because my parents were very involved and made us read a lot. A lot of my classmates struggled because the curriculum was not differentiated. Our high school tuition was $12,000 a year, each! Totally insane! I taught at a Catholic school for two years before I got married and only made $35,000. It's impossible to raise a family on that, and the teacher turnover is very high because of that. We personally are against paying such high tuition when the teachers hardly make any money. The public schools by us are really good, we will be putting our kids in them. Most people don't think about this .

My children recently started a private school. It was always our goal for the kids to go to this school, but it seemed like we would never afford it! After a lot of prayers I was actually offered a job as the school nurse. I do get a small discount, but the school is very expensive. We have had to cut back on a lot of expenses such as eating out, cable tv etc. It is worth every penny and sacrifice!! I can see the change in them!

My eldest daughter goes to private school. For me it's not so much a sacrifice.... Is it hard to write the check every month ??? YES! However, I look at it from a glass half full perspective. I am investing in my child's future. I am aiding my child in becoming a well rounded person. The school she attends teaches the same core values in which I have instilled in her. What a great return on an "investment"!

I'm a big supporter of public schools, but sadly they are not all created equal. We live in a wonderful school system in a state known for education so I feel confident with public. If I lived in a different area, I would absolutely make those same sacrifices! In a way I already make sacrifices to afford the crazy stupid taxes that cover this town's great school system.

The 7 and 6 year old went to a private Christian preschool/kinder and I can tell the difference in education as opposed to my 13 year old. I am pleased with the school district we live in and they all go to public school now. From my experience the private school tuition was a sacrifice but well worth it.  Love the video and discussion!!

I was thinking only the rich pay for it! Ide like to mention that its a good idea to ask the school for financial assistance, I asked multiple private schools before I found one that agreed to it.

My 7 year old twin daughters go to public school. However, the Township and school district are great! If I lived in a less fortunate area then private school it would be. I feel like why live and pay taxes in an area where my children cannot utilize the school system to get a good educational foundation. The money I put into private school I can use to live in a better area with better schools and benefit all the way around.
