Tip: If you want an area at the highest resolution possible (zoom level 20), but the area you want is to big to fit in the screen....zoom out until your area fits in the screen, then hit L. This will lock the viewport and now you can zoom into 20 (you wont see it zooming in, but just do it), and you will see it start downloading all the map tiles at Zoom level 20, for your entire area! Then when finished, hit E like in this video.

Preface: This is my first time ever opening Blender and attempting to do a project.

I was having trouble with finding my desired area in GIS Add on and then not being able to "crop", rotate, or even manipulate the toolbar until finalized my area selection with 'E'. The area I wanted was north-south and on an ultrawide monitor I was loading way too much unneeded data for just a stretch of highway I wanted. When in windowed mode, manipulating the window to better fit my desired area combined with @.BH-dsk's helpful tip of locking and then zooming, I was able to step up my zoom of a more precise area without having to wait to load 50k+.

It also looks like if you keep crashing or if you do want to download a lot of data. Keep attempting since it appears ot caches the information making consecutive attempts to load the area at higher zoom faster. Also increase cache size.

its asks me an api key when i click on get elevation what do i do?

this is mega cool, this is gonna save me a lot of time.

it is asking for a API key from opentopography to get srtm data

OSM 3d data is just sooo bad. the model i get i always so bad i cant even use them. maybe in the future data will be better and accurate.
