PS5's Video Output Resolutions Compared (4K, 1080p & 1080i) - Affro's Curiosities

What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i? I don't see much of a difference between them..🧐🤔

I personally enjoy using my plasma TV still ( just because). It will run only 1080i so very happy that option is still available so there’s one reason it’s included.

This is silly, 1080p is fine up to 24 inches, of course there will be difference to 4k if it is a big screen

Can i use performance mode on 1080p?

If you have a 4K TV, it’s logical that 1080i is going to look bad. But if you have an HD CRT or just an LCD that was built specificaly to work with interlacing (that’s what I played a PS5 on) it’s going to look incredible and even comparible to 1080p.

Is there any huge difference in 4K compared to 1080 p in ps5 games? Plz i need your unbiased comment, i am really confused now, what should i choose, A 1080 p 144 hz monitor or a 4K 60 fps monitor for PS5, PLZ REPLY 🙏

Good to know. I'm gonna stick with HD and Blu-Ray because I don't see much of a difference between 4K and 1080p, but I will still buy a PS5 to play my favorite PS4 games and eventually try out PS5 editions of Miles Morales, Avengers and Crash Bandicoot 4 and get exclusives for the system like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Returnal.

Maybe 1080i is included so it can be played on final gen HD CRT's like the Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KD-34XBR960? It has an HDMI port supporting 1080i. With lack of motion blur and superior blacks to current flat screens...I'd really like to see the PS5 connected to one. It might be the justification you are looking for.

I've a Sharp TV that is 1080p but when I turn on the dot by dot mode to eliminate overscan in 1080p the pictures looks dull and too soft but at 1080i it looks perfect. I think the dot by dot mode eliminates sharpness completely on my TV on 1080p actually and changes the color mode it's strange it looks horrible. Even when you change to full RGB picture looks just too soft and you can't adjust color or sharpness as settings have no effect. Looks perfect with dot by dot mode turned off at 1080p but then you're not getting the full picture due to overscan. So for me 1080i gives the best picture it looks sharp and colorful with overscan off(dot by dot mode on). I never notice any motion blur and I'm using a PS4. So I'm glad the PS5 has the option for 1080i for whenever I get one. The Series X has no option for 1080i so I would have to play it with overscan turned on so would be missing part of the picture or have it looking blurry and full and just terrible. Anyway I'm happy with 1080i on anything I've tried on it, looks good to me.

By this year, Philippine television used 1080i in some channels such as CNN Philippines & ANC.

I wish I could do 4k, but alas my TV can do only up to 1080p. Pretty much, if you can do 4k, do it. Why would anyone use interlaced? I'll also say, I had to mute and look away from the Spidey parts, and you know why. I have no doubt I'm in for a beautiful experience with those games. Now that I've seen this, I can go to slee...😴

Hey Affro, it's been a while. :) That is awesome that you got the PS5. And these are insane graphics. I actually started watching the video on 480p 🤣 definitely needed to change that one. And I don't remember 1440p60 HD being an option for the videos here. This may perhaps be the first video I saw with those settings. Awesome job on the video it's nice to see the comparisons.
