Lightsaber Duels now vs Back Then

Let’s not act like Kylo didn’t swing that shit with utter cinematic menace. I hate the sequels just as much as the next real ass Star Wars fan, but you could see and feel the rage behind every swing that man performed.

Listen, I kinda get it though because none of the new characters besides Kylo had any real saber training. They didn’t follow the forms, and even Kylo was taught by Luke who was never an incredibly elegant duelist, so his fighting style is kinda rough in itself.

The fact that Rey was force sensitive at all wasn’t even clear until the end of ep7, so if she could immediately wield a lightsaber like obi wan who trained in official forms his entire life, she’d have been crucified even more.

Although I always liked prequel fights, I remember when people didn’t like the fighting style and thought it was more akin to a dance rather than an actual fight. Now we have the sequels and didn’t realize how good we had it.

The sith lord VS obi and qui gon was propably the best directed light saber fight of all time

Everyone complaining about the duels going downhill and blaming Disney for being ACCURATE these Jedi and Sith have no real masters or training sessions much like the Force users of the past Anakin and Obi trained DAILY while Rey picked up a Saber and swung it. Only guided by the saber itself speaking thru to her. C’mon. For being a bunch of lore hungry nerds you guys way overlooked that shit, basic obvious answer. There aren’t padawans and masters swarming around anymore. Haven’t even seen any training sessions at all!

As an active sequel boycotter, I think it actually makes sense that in the sequels they aren't nearly as skilled with a lightsaber as the wielders before their time. Even if we look at the OT (yes I know it's only because of it's age) the duels aren't so crazy in those movies either, because Luke barely had any jedi to train him properly the only 2 who trained him were very old and well past their prime. So technically and chronologically speaking, it makes sense that lightsaber skill gets watered down as generations go by.

Edit: I say Obi-Wan and Yoda are well past their prime as in physically. They only grow more powerful with the force so in that sense they are not past their prime at all and quite the opposite in fact. With a lightsaber however, they definitely couldn't move the same way as they used to.

Yknow what’s wrong we can’t see their whole bodies so the fuel looks weird it switches frames too much all the older fights you see their whole bodies and the camera pans around the fight

tbh I didnt like lightsaber back then too much random spinning in between saber attacks thought it looked silly. Like they would connect then do some random spin like how are you not getting punished

The point is, almost all of the jedi who could actually train someone with lightsaber techniques are lost forever so it does makes sense that the lightsaber duels in the sequels are disastrous.

We also have to keep in mind, that the characters in the sequel trilogy, how far less training, and are basically amateurs with the exception of Kylo Ren

The prequel duels are long, over-choreographed dance battles designed to stun dumb people. The original trilogy duels are raw emotion.

In fairness, large amounts of the modern shows are a great and welcomed mix of both, but the prequels are unwatchable garbage. The worst being the final duel between Anakin vs Obi Wan in Revenge.

Idk as much as I dislike the sequels it's kinda unfair to use three characters who were never taught how to properly use lightsabers versus Jedi and Sith who trained for decades with all the stances and techniques. Finn never used one until that very moment. And Kylo and Rey just swing wildly without thought because nobody taught them and are fueled by rage. No shit the lightsaber fights aren't going to be as flashy

Heck, I'll even take the orginal trilogy over the Disney series, at least there was some story telling behind light Saber duels that made it interesting.

As much as I agree, this doesn’t feel fair lol. 1 character had absolutely no training, 1 had minimal training, and Kylo’s style was meant to be more medieval (I think especially because of his style of saber).

We have definitely seen some awesome saber fights in the Disney Star Wars universe. Just not so much in the sequel trilogy (which I think makes a lot of sense)
