The only problem with this video is that you're on the other side of the planet. Hugs don't travel that far. This is my go to for anyone curious about how this thing fell into our glass. Epic. I know the effort that went into this. I'm gutted I'm your second patron. I wanted to be the first. Brilliant Phil. Superb work. Just....ineffable.
ОтветитьIRISH WHYSKEY HISTORY PLEASE.
ОтветитьBest whiskey channel ever. Thanks.
ОтветитьBeer, in whichever form, never featured in the making of Aqua Vitae. The Irish were the first to distil, as recorded in 1403. The ENGLISH learned next, as the Irish Monks would come over regularly to treat British victims of the Plague-once every 15 years! But the Brits, dim as they were, never progressed beyond gin. The Scots, who all lived way North of the Irish, made use of this knowledge. Up to 1900, the Irish produced 10 times the total Scottish output. Irish magnate George Roe produced more aqua vitae than all of Speyside combined.
ОтветитьLove the shout out to the great ralfy and Whiskey Tribe! Great video! The thing I love most about whisky is the craft and history
Ответитьperfect thank you
ОтветитьHeard Yeast poop...just knew I had to keep watching 😂🥃
ОтветитьAll this legal stuff we say: It's legal or it's unlegal...
But we must make questions about the legitimacy of a group of man demanding tributes just for selling promisses they never deliver...
Top rate production. It even filled in some of the gaps in my understanding of the events.
ОтветитьFunny that Scotch whisky is now considered premium, considering that Scotch became the most popular whisky in the world by flooding the market with inferior cheap blends in the 19th century.
ОтветитьWow. Great video Phil, I could feel the passion for the subject in the production levels. A really enjoyable watch.
ОтветитьAn excellent overview of a complex topic - very professional and well researched. Kudos! 👍 One thing - the classification of Dalwhinnie is contentious and it's not just them who says they are a Highland distillery. Even though it is not that far from the River Spey it is located a fair distance from all the other Speyside distilleries and on the southwest side of the Cairngorms, plus all the distilleries that are close to it (apart from the Speyside distillery) are classed as Highland region. Just nit-picking 😉
ОтветитьGreat video for us the newcomers! The only critic would be that you forgot Horst Luenings in the list of whiskey reviewers :)
Ответитьabsolutely love your work Phil. Super well done and thank you.
ОтветитьPhil - Watching your old videos for the second (or so) time; really appreciate your effort and diligence in researching the history of Scotch Whisky. I’ve been a small scale distiller for a while, about 20 gals a year for me and a few select friends. My goal has been to recreate an Islay type whiskey here in Texas; can’t recreate the smokiness of say a Laphroaig though, our water is very good, but leaches through limestone rather than peat. My recipe and process gives me a product that to some extent mimics the complex seaside character of Islay, but with only a lightly smokey element. Learning the history of Scotch through your videos makes my Aqua Vitae taste just that much better!
ОтветитьWhat a phenomenal video. Holy hecking heck.
ОтветитьHow’s it go about immigrants?…‘Irish first build a church-Germans build a farm shed-Scotts build a distillery’
ОтветитьI've been in to whisky for close to 20 years. Slowly diving deeper and deeper in to drinking, collecting, doing tastings, whisky clubs, ...you name it! I was thoroughly impressed by your level of dedication in this video to bring us the history of what is whisky. Very impressive. Slainte!
ОтветитьWoooow really, really epic video! Thank you!
ОтветитьI have been transported from Africa to Scotch land through watching such a historical, high quality, masterpiece,Royal standard type video....Now I'm in!!!!!
ОтветитьThe bit about the tax riots makes me think of the moonshiners in the Appalachian mountains in America, who coincidentally were predominantly of Scottish and Irish descent.
ОтветитьJust discovered your site -- great stuff, thank you!
ОтветитьThanks! Really enjoyed that
ОтветитьGreat, great video. Greetings from Argentina!
ОтветитьBest video of whisky ever made. Congrats.
ОтветитьYeh really really good Phil. Excellent informative content, structure was logical and assisted with cramming so much information into a short time. Sensational and crams a 200 page book into 30 mins. Only recommendation I have is for you to practice the pronunciation of the Scot's tongue... may be difficult for a Kiwi!
ОтветитьSpeaking of the greedy Brits, when they decided to tax malted barley, the Irish just used half un-malted for their mash.
ОтветитьI had to pause the video to comment before i forget to do it. I have been watching so many of your videos on your last days and this one is my favorite. You put so much work into it and so much information. Thank you very much for this.... Now excuse me, I'll keep watching the video.
ОтветитьDude this video was amazing. Well done.
ОтветитьThis is a pearl of a video. Thanks for the great content!
ОтветитьDo more about wood maturation history!
ОтветитьHey I am from India and really love your videos
ОтветитьExcellent video!!!
ОтветитьBegan my journey through Scotch, Bourbon, and Rum over the past few years. From what I remember, it has been grand.
ОтветитьWow 😲
ОтветитьWhere does it come from to call a drink a dram?
ОтветитьLove the video man, much respect from the heart of Whisky Country 👍
ОтветитьWorth every minute in this video. Very nice and complete. From drama, action suspense and lots of whiskey. You can see the great work behind the camera, good editing and post-production. I definitely enjoyed it and learned a lot. More videos like this please.
ОтветитьUuuuuhhhhh how can bushmills claim 1608???? If scotch started properly in the 1800’s….
ОтветитьLove your content. I'm trying to pick out bits and pieces from the "firehouse of information" as you once put it. Your videos help.
ОтветитьInfen... what?
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьThe production value of yours videos is CLEARLY upscale in quality ! man I loved this video!
ОтветитьGreat video Phul.
ОтветитьWell done Phil!!!! Thanks a lot for this work.
ОтветитьEvery few months, I rewatch this. Such an amazing video.
ОтветитьDamn dude. These videos are amazing! I'm having a talk with my whisky club about the whisky regions, and instead of doing a regular contemporary presentation about the distilleries in each area, their flavour profiles etc.; I want to put it in a more historical context because I find the geopolitical and economical factors that shaped each of them fascinating. One other interesting little tidbit I find worth noting about the history of Scotch is that a lot more of them would have been peaty. Not for the reasons we have heavily peated whiskies today, but probably because peat was so widely used in the past as a heat source. Cheers and I'm off to enjoy some of your other videos!
ОтветитьWell done on the research, hist. pics, animations and so on. Massively high quality of the vid. Loved it
