Interesting - I see what appears to be a "Baja Scorpions" sticker behind the pilot (who is possibly Brian) in one of the shots during this clip. That was for F-117 flight test, so a little surprising. Maybe it's just stock footage or something. I am sorry to hear that Brian has passed away. RIP Sleddriver.

Somethings wrong here, at that height and the distance LA is from Tucson he shouldn't have been able to see LA. LA would have been 3553ft below the horizon.

I wish I still had the link to the article regarding the flight stories of this magnificent plane. Officially it could do mach 3.2 but multiple pilots have pushed it up to, and occasionally past 3.7, and thats when the jet black plane starts glowing a medium red. I've also heard a rumor that on the final flight, the pilots attempted to find its true top speed, and found out they couldn't carry enough fuel to max out the engines. No idea if its true, but badass all the same!

it's generally accepted that this guy's stories, while based on facts, were mostly just embellishments. Not harmful per se, but not true stories.

As much as I love this story I think it would have been cooler had Walter not responded after being given his airspeed. It broke the illusion that they all needed to be told by ground the way the Cessna did and made it clear it was a pissing contest. Sometimes less is more.

I just read the top speed of the SR-71 is not limited by the engines but by the melting point of the plane. So faster than Mach 3. That would be cool. I've seen pictures of them at 75,000 feet.
