Black mesa is my favorite version Of The 1st Game. I Love the fact it makes half Life 1 play Like the Half Life 2 (e.g pick up a barrel And use it AS a Shield)

I’m so incredibly shocked someone finally took the time to talk about Black Mesa more in-depth. There’s only one or two other videos covering it, and I personally got introduced to Half-Life through it. I’ve replayed it countless times and your praises and flaws of it I FULLY agree with. Half life was amazing game love the 2nd one more wish we got the 3rd one but that won’t happen

imo, black mesa's hard mode is easier and much more balanced than half life's hard mode. the enemies are no longer bullet sponges and they deal a lot more less damage. it's very enjoyable, especially in the fight with gonarch and that last big encounter with the grunts in "forget about freeman", those are the epitome of the hard mode experience. it's much more tense and epic, and doesn't feel unbalanced at all.

The HECU grunts can’t and move at the sane time in Half-Life so all you gotta do is wait until they’re moving to break cover and return fire. I actually had a decent amount of trouble when I did my first playthrough of Black Mesa because the grunts can move and shoot just fine in that and I was used to the original games mechanics.

I don't know how a video this stupid has this many likes. "Hit-scan is a problem". EVERY SHOOTER uses hit-scan. You can't dodge bullets in real life, and you certainly can't dodge them as a crowbar wielding scientist, that's why you're meant to use your movement and obstructing enemy sightlines to your advantage. That isn't a 'problem' it's a gameplay loop.

Not to mention the one thing I consistently see in your footage is you're really really bad at Half-LIfe. No wonder you have these complaints.

Calling making health frequently available a "band-aid on the issue" is also so dumb it actually made me feel my insides curl in on themselves when I heard them come from your mouth. It's called game design. You aren't MEANT to get through the encounters unscathed, so when you complain you can't get through any unscathed what your complaint really boils down to is "Oh no, the game has challenge. :("

Not to mention the numerous other braindead takes in this video, like saying Episode 1 is the least significant piece of Half-Life 2 content right after reviewing Lost Coast, or only singling out and picking specifically the worst Hl2;DM servers to show - as there is a small but dedicated community of people who play vanilla HL2DM to this very day.

no worries, hunt down the freeman doesn't count as it's technically a paid fangame and not an official half life game made by Valve or it's partners. (like Aperture: Tag)

My introduction to this universe was Blue Shift for some reason and honestly playing it first made it feel more worthwhile and has made it one of my favourites purely out of nostalgia, but I do admit that comparing it to Half-Life 1 or Opposing Force makes it seem worse

I think an issue that i had getting into Half life, being that it came out before i was born, and i played a lot of half life 2 on my original Xbox 360 way back pre 2010's is that, now once i got into it, with a lot of games being influenced by it, it became almost cookie cutter for me, like i enhoy half life as the original of these games and its still very fun, but like i always just had a kinda "Meh" vibe going into them, cause i played more games following the same formula than i can count, and some of them i enjoy more than half life itself made coming back to it very much a iffy feeling

Blue shift was supposed to be free dlc for the Dreamcast version of the game. Funny that it's the weakest entry since it was actually my entry into the series..I remember being in my early teens and seeing the box on the shelf at best buy and thinking Barney was a cop who fights aliens 😂

Half life blue shift was the first half life game I ever played...

Not that it matters much, but I still feel like Boneworks showed people what you could do with VR, and Alyx showed people how it could be done well. I just don't enjoy the experience of playing Boneworks after the novelty of the verious interaction wears out. I know the story evolves etc but I couldn't bring myself to finish it because I just don't enjoy being in the game.

Half Life Alyx is one of the best gaming experiences I've every had, period. It loses nothing from missing the ability to ram a large sword through a mannequin.

Hunt Down The Freeman is a study in why idea guys should not be the leads.
