ОтветитьIMO you have the plate for the gear stick the wrong way round. ie. there is no "gate" to get into reverse. To get reverse, you push down, move to the left then back. with no "gate" you are simply putting it into reverse.
ОтветитьI had a 79 VW Rabbit. That car does reverse in 2nd gear. To go forward, you must shift to 2nd then 1st. I dunno, got to be a VW thing. Look forward to your next episode.

ОтветитьYou need to change the position of the plate between the shifter base and the floor. The slightly curved upward tab on the plate has to point forward and on the right.

ОтветитьYour perseverance is to be greatly commended. Most would have given up but your determination to fix the problems is never ending, even when you have a lot of frustration. I KNOW you did get through this and ended up with one of the most amazing VW Bus restorations every made. A TRUE concourse restoration!! I'm sure you are already enjoying the fruits of you labor now based on when this video was made.

I recently acquired a ‘57 panel van and kept going into reverse trying to go down into 2nd. Is it possible that where you think is 3rd is actually 1st? Try it because that’s how mine feels to me after driving bay windows.
Mic I noticed you eliminated the reduction gear boxes. Did you let the transaxle builder know that? Otherwise I wonder if he built a transaxle for a bus with reduction gear boxes. Meaning you would have four reverse gears and one forward gear.

today on my Mercedes class E 300 diesel I have to pull all blade fuse and clean off all corrosion .the car was setting 6 months in a barn with the battery hookup //very bad and I had none of my PIXPRO SP 360 4K Kodak with me, it was winter in Michigan --corrosion

ОтветитьYour shifter is not adjusted properly when you bolted it down. Loosen the two 13 mounting bolts and then put the shifter in 3rd gear. While bolts are loose. Leave it in 3rd gear and tighten the two mounting bolts down. Boom you will have all your gears.

ОтветитьA few little spots around the hatch opening and some other small spots… No worries, Mitch has it under control! You sure have done a good job keeping Kona under wraps until the video series is finished. This whole body of work will be a great resource for future bus restorers!

ОтветитьThose LED bars under the dashboard are horrible to look at. You should arrange them better, hide the cables and arrange the bars along the entire length of the underside of the dashboard.

So glad you have gotten it this far and excited for more. Also, how great did it feel to have learned so much from Claudio and Eddie that you were able to fix things that Dom messed up?
ОтветитьI'm wondering if the gearchange mechanism has been altered so that when you select 2nd, it's Reverse, and 3rd will be First, 4th will be Second, top right (on the gate) selects Third, and selecting the old reverse is actually Fourth!

ahhh, electrical… there’s ALWAYS issues when combining old technology with new. Different species, or some other purely magical issue. Automotive and coach Electrical troubleshooting was a specialty in my Dallas shop. I can honestly say that, besides simple shorts and grounding issues, the problems were ALWAYS traced to non OEM add on systems or accessories. It’s extremely frustrating, good job on preserving, and fighting through to the end for a well earned victory! Think of how much you’ve learned through Kona’s rebirth! I’m so very happy for Y’all!

ОтветитьDom not giving you your money’s worth on the paint job is bad enough but that’s fixable… and you fixed it.
What I can’t forgive is his treatment of Lori. That can never be fixed and if anything should haunt him for the rest of his working life it should be how he treated a paying customer, especially when it was just him and her. You don’t strike me as the violent type but I am willing to bet my retirement Dom would be missing a few teeth if he had done what he did to Lori in your presence.
I was laughing out aloud when you showed Lori the ‘forward’ gear…. Your face as it moved backward. Been watching since the beginning and it’s not far off for the first ever drive. Unless you fancy going backwards ! 💯💯😂👍🏽
