I don't think that we need to change the movies but we need to use them to change the prospective off them and use them as how they can be better I think we need to step away off the idea off oh he is a man or oh she is a woman and focus on what they bring to the situation

Why are men always the villain?
This speaker is already bias in his research, so I think
The stereotype on men is enough to make men villain's and it's the real evil

Wow this is incredibly bad and misleading.

This has nothing to do with teach manhood and is about the speaker's view of how women are portrayed (with some fair criticism).

Its an old talk but this type of thought partner has led us to the masculinity crisis we are facing.

The bechdel test? Meaningless.

1 in 5 women sexually assa ulted? Incorrect and based on a highly flawed survey that didnt actually measure what it said it would. This only serves to make women feel like victims and like as if they are so incredibly oppressed. That is an incredibly negative and self defeating attitude for one to promote

This philosophy/observation hasn't yet caught on with the general population. At present, it feels like we are losing the newest generations of men and upcoming men. Except, nowadays it seems worse, the media seems fully saturated with empowered women and female role models. It feels like few males are portrayed in positive ways other than a hero, love interest or dolt.

I believe that this situation is associated with the current round of feminism. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of healthy masculine energy to balance the powerful female energy, especially in the role-model realm.

I’ve watched all kinds of movies and have settled as a guy into sci-fi, action, and horror. I’ll drift into drama and thrillers but particularly enjoy the other 3.

This is all good and well, but it assumes that boys have a strong male mentor in their lives. But more and more boys don’t, and so they find men to emulate in all the wrong places, even as modern culture blames them for everything that’s going wrong. That’s the boy crisis, and keep in mind that three times as many men die by suicide as women. What are we going to do about that?

Villains in stories aren't just "bad people," they are a personification of the main character's struggle or weakness. That concept is more relatable to the modern person than vanquishing a foe. Some of the concepts have been the struggle of rejection, the struggle of making sense of trauma, the earning of one's place in society, the journey of responsibility. Even in brave, sure there was a "bad guy" (the selfish prince turned to a bear), but his existence wasn't to have something for the girl to slay, but lived in the story as an example of what life can become without mending broken bonds with those closest to you. Villains provide living obstacles for the main character and that message doesn't seem to be getting across. There's more emphasis on the conflict and reward, as noted by Colin here. So maybe more stories such as Coco, Inside Out and Soul.

Male Feminists: Creepy Simps

Whether you agree or disagree with me as long as you are tolerant. I honestly believe that males who identify as feminist are far more dangerous than other males like me who do not identify as feminist because that is just condescending to females. These manipulating males around the world who identify as feminist are just doing this mostly for attention to somehow score brownie points. To all the females around the world be extremely cautious when a male identifies as a feminist because they are the creepiest desperate dudes you would ever meet so be very careful. Justin Trudeau for example identified as a feminist and then all the sudden he was accused of sexual assault by a young female which he admit & apologized for his inappropriate behaviour, so that proves that males can be dangerous around females even when they identify as feminist so be very cautious period. Society should simply teach males to behave like gentlemen around females by respecting their privacies period end of story. To all my fellow human brothers and sisters around the world, stay safe & always remember be genuine & take care of one another.

More could have been said about men being portrayed as dumb.
There's also general theme of "He should be so lucky to be with her" that I think is worth looking at too.
If you watch Frozen, you'll see it. She's a high-value woman (which is great. Something we should all strive to be), but what's he? A "fixer-upper". This is what we're teaching boys today. They're inherently broken, and should be so lucky as to find a woman that can fix them.

You can thank the hays code rigidly enforced from 1934 to 1954 and later watered down from 1955 to 1967 before finally being scrapped for the lack of violence in the wizard of oz

It's just a movie. And men need male role models, not idealized female models.

This is such utter B.S. Movies today really do not show good versions of manhood or womanhood. But, the version of manhood his sees is terrible. Courage is going out and fighting it alone. The one who goes out to fight alone is the leader of the team that later has the motivation to fight the evil, but only after that first person or group has shown the courage. When I see women as heroines, I rarely see them develop much as characters. They come in determined and see it through. When I see men as action heroes, they now come in as Marvel or DC Superheroes. Jerry Maguire back in the 1990s was a huge hit because it was about a man who had an ideal he set forth, and then he had to live up to it, failed, saw his own failure and sought to correct it. It was simply a movie about becoming a better man. We had so few of such movies then, fewer now, and no one ever seems to write the female version, because the feminists would skewer them. Instead, we get women as actors replacing men and acting rough and as action heroes, and not even nice, and the movies FAIL. They write women to be men, in a genre watched by men more then women, and wonder why they fail? She-Hulk? The Ghostbusters remake? When was the last time you saw a woman in a movie lead or inspire using feminine guile, fail, reassess and get back after it, admitting her failure. Does not happen. Few female or male characters grow in the quality of their character in any movie these days.

The boy power and girl power. Should find a healthy , respectful and harmonious. Balance to make a positive , safe and secure , emotional and personal connection. We parents husbands and wives must be on the same page on how . We are going to shape our children to become better adults. That goes not to only our daughters but our sons as well.

If you didn't stand up for yourself as a kid you can't make up for it as a crying adult you m0rons. That's not how manhood works. If you let yourself be walked over as a kid, you will be a pushover as an adult everytime you're put to the test.

It's been a while since I watched the original trilogy, but wasn't Princess Leia the most capable character in at least 2 of the films? When the boys were lost or worried she just took charge right? I understand she did some sitting and waiting, but that's because she was in situations nobody could've gotten out of alone.
