When brushing on latex make sure all the pores and gaps are filled. Apply it evenly and smoothly. It's just like house painting only thicker.

The yarn used here is wool. If you are using acrylic now, try the step up to wool. When I personally was learning tufting 15+ years ago I also started with acrylic. I would come out of Walmart with a basket full.

These are actually going to be chair mats for a customer but the exact same techniques apply for finishing any size rug. We are also testing a wooden frame that we make and they are available in different sizes in our shop.

The primary backing material is a dense all polyester. (We have seen other non-professionals selling something similar. It may look similar but it's not the same.) The density is different and the thread count is different. What that means is 1. you can make a thicker rug and 2. it makes the surface broader therefore easier to tuft on. By broader I mean densely woven. More holes to tuft into.
